how to get rid of urine smell

I pride myself on how Ive trained my dog, hes a great dog, fully potty trained. My wife on the other hand, isnt trained on when to take the dog out. My wife had her days and nights switched for a while, long story, not going to get into it, but she went to bed at about 8am when I left for work. when I came home at 9pm she was still sleeping. And my dog couldnt hold it THAT long. Hell, I cant even hold it more than 20 minutes when I get the urge. I found it when I came home, got mad, yelled at the nocturnal wife for not taking the dog out, now I gotta deal with piss in the carpet. To make things worse we are moving out in 2 weeks, definitely not the time for the dog to have his first accident.
The pee was ice cold, had obviously been sitting there for hours while my wife was in lala land. I cleaned it up but the smell was still horrific. Friggin dog has radioactive urine. after spending endless amounts of money on 4 different carpet cleaning supplies, and then even renting a steam carpet cleaner with foaming carpet soap and running it over the pee spot 11, count em, 11 times, there is still a residual pee smell.
I dont know what to do. I fear that it penetrated the pad underneath, and I cant afford to make my car insurance payments, much less replace the carpet.
WHAT DO I DO????????? Im looking for any and all Home remedies, specific products I need to buy, shaking a shrinked mummified head over the pee spot and chanting, anything to get this odor to go away!

1st forgive your wife, the dog should have been trained to wake her up..mine does..so LOL..it's your fault. Your are married now so get used to it.
Get one of those sham wows...it will work believe me, to draw out the urine from under the carpet to the pad..then sprinkle baking soda on the spot and after it sits overnight steam clean it again. That should do it.
I have been a cleaing lady for 34 years and a pet owner longer than that. I also work night shift.

You should try a good enzyme product that breaks down pet potty smells at the molecular level...they work! But you will most likely have to pull the carpet up in that area to be able to treat the padding underneath as well. Treating just the carpet isn't going to get rid of it when it has soaked into the pad also.

Is the carpet dry now from when you cleaned it?
well, Ive had several attempts cleaning it. the first time I cleaned it with towells and carpet cleaner spray thats *specially designed for pets* and then it dried, and smelled horrid. then i tried several other cleaning products, they dried after usage each time, and still smelled. then i used the steam cleaner over and over and over and over during a 2 day period. the last time i used the steam cleaner was a few hours ago and its still damp, and still smells.

Ive forgiven her, I was mad at first, but bigger picture its no ones fault. to be fair, the dog does jump on the bed and yelp when he needs to go outside, btu when my wife is sleeping, i couldnt get her to wake up with a bucket of cold water. The dog wakes me up every morning at about 7am to pee.

cause my landlady is crazy. she has all kinds of weird stipulations written into our lease. she can add things to the lease for "maintenance" or whatever. for example, Its written into the lease that we are responsible for mowing the lawn, all 14 acres of it. well it needs to be mowed once a week and having just moved here from across the country we dont own a mower, So I need to pay a service 80 dollars a week to mow it. BUT if we miss a week and she drives by and sees that its not done, she will hire the same service, and then add $250 onto our monthly rent because she had to get it done.

Wait until it dries completely and see if it still smells..... my dog was on high doses of steroids before he died... I know about pee on the floor. Poor little guy.

LOL...I wake up if the wind blows hard.
You might need to hire a dog walker for your dogs mid day needs.

OH! AND! She has it written into the lease that she can walk into the house without notice to inspect it for cleanliness, now, coming from california, by law landlords need to give 24 hours notice. She can (and has) walked into our house unannounced. Im a newly-wed, we are....busy.... all the time, and not always ready for guests. And you knwo what, sometimes, I dont want to clean my breakfast dish right away, maybe I want to leave it in the sink until supper time, well, heaven forbid theres a single dish in the sink for her to discover when she unlocks the door and walks in unnanounced.

Normally I take him to work with me, but if I have a ton of meetings set up (as I always do on tuesdays) I leave him at home. I knew I should have taken him with me that day.

Get a cat and have the cat pee in that spot. The cat pee should mask the dog pee quite easily.
You're welcome.

Yep. shes a freak. I mean, I dont need 24 hours, just give me one hour. one hour. so I can at least get my undies off the bathroom floor and put my shoes in order next to the door.
We found an awesome brand new apartment complex thats just incredible. Its gated, you need to swipe a proximity card to get in, and there are guards 24/7 and stuff, makes me feel really safe living there. I didnt want to move from California to Georgia because the crime rate here is like 50x worse here than my home town, but this new place will give me so much peace of mind that i desperately need.

I don't blame him...and his wife would never hear it sneak up on her if she were sleeping
Maybe that is what made the mess on the carpet and it wasn't the dog!
