how to get the benifits

how can i get the benifits of live sand with out using it. i already have a 45gal half way through the cycle. It has about 10lbs of live rock with 30lbs of base, and 3 inches of small grain sand. i wont be able to put fish in the tank for another 2 weeks so i have alot of time. Well any help would be appreciated.

i dont have any friends that have fish, and the local fish retailers are no the most accomidating people. Another question i have is what is reef safe or not reef safe. is that a fish that can not survive in a reef setup or a fish that is destructive to a reef setup.

What makes it live is the microscopic biological bacteria that grows on it, and the many tiny crustaceans and other micro and macro-organisms that reside in it.

That's only true to the extent that it is seeded. If you get poor live rock and "dead" sand your bed will never be healthy.
If you can't find some locally order from this site and cure it. Great stuff.

ok so as long as my LR is not crappy i have a good chance. i am out of town and my tank is just cycling and i shall return in three weeks so i think i will be ok. if i return and i see no growth on my LR, I quess i will start seeding and go back to square one.
Thank you Everyone.
