how to install a power compact?

This may be a dumb question but I'm getting ready to buy a p/c and I want to make sure it will fit my tank. Does the p/c sit on a glass canopy or does it mount on the sides of the tank with no canopy?

My Orbit fixture sits on the top of the aquarium sides. You can have a glass canopy or not. My legs came with the package, some don't.

If you buy a fixture with legs/stand it will sit on the sides of the tank, otherwise it will sit on the glass top.

Make sure that your glass hood is tempered, otherwise expect it to crack. PCs give off a heck of a lot of heat.

The length of my tank is 31". What size should I get? I was thinking about a 24"?

You need either a 30 inch complete unit that will fit over your tank or a 24 inch retro kit if you are installing into a canopy.
