How to maintain the Quarantine tank?

<img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" /> First.... As we know that Q is known to be a 10 gallon or whatsever, empty, provide something as a shelter, sponge air bubble or powerhead or empty hang-on filter.
As we know that after tank is being newly setted up and within an exception ammonia/nitrite/nitrate cicle will roller coaster.
When fish is sick and with freshly set up and fish have a " double" to battle with illness and the water cycle which is extremely hard on them.
I want to know how to set up a quarantine in right way and ensure that "hospital tank" is reliable when anything happen to fish without putting them thur the water cycle roller coastings and cause them much worser.
After treat the fish and move them to tank and How do I remove the medications, sterlize the water, and whatever. Should it be running just to be prepare for the next sick ones?
Should I forget the quarantine and buy an Acrylic hang on tank with little pump and put in tank with special attention for weeks before release the fish into the tank?
Other thing I read some thread about dipping the ick or new fish with fresh water to wash out any ick or as precaution. Care to share the produrce how to do correct without shock the fish before/after dip treatment.
Thanks

They might not be answering if this has already been covered? or those who know might not be on. anyway the only thing i can tell you is that my lfs told me do a freshwater dip for ick also, I've never had to try so i don't know if what they told me works. Try searching for ich fresh water dip...just an idea since no one answered you.

Look up hyposalinity..It was on this page a few posts up..Also try the disease section..You might get a better result there..As far as a QT tank..This might draw some contorversy from a few but.this is what I have done..Put a small filter on the main tank with a bio wheel..Also have the same filter on the qt tank..When the time arises the puta fish in take the biowheel and place it in the qt tank filter..This will prevent the cycle spikes..When done take out the bio wheel and add some carbon to the filter in the qt tank to take out the meds..Otherwise If you plan on doing awater change..Just take some water from the main tank and add it in the QT tank..That way you don't have to keep it up and running constantly..IF you have inverts you might want to toss the biowheel though..I'm not sure if you can totally get rid of copper, etc on it..You can try a diluted solution of bleach and water, soak it overnight and then soak in fresh water..and let dry completely..Floss filters will also probably do the same as a biowheel..OR taking some substrate and putting it into the QT tank..There are many options good luck in deciding.

To do a freshwater dip just get a 1 or 2 gallon container and fill it freshwater and put a quart of saltwater in there so it won't shock the fish. You need to match the temperature and ph of the main aquarium. You can raise the ph by adding sodium becarbonate to the container. Then put the fish in the container for a few minutes but don't go over ten minutes. The fish may show signs of disorientation for a moment, but it should recover. I hope that this helps you.
