A mandarin really needs a constant supply of pods. If you have pods in your tank and purchase a Mandarin what will happen is the Mandarin will eat all the pods in the tank over time and then starve. If you have a refugium with pods established then you could keep one after the tank and refuge has been established for about a year. That is why the Mandarin is considered a difficult to keep fish.
Some have been able to get Mandarins to accept other foods but it is difficult. You could research more on this in the archive section of this board

I saw a website that sold POD and/or MYSIS SHRIMP farms on the net, maybe consider checking that out, but i dont know how difficult to spot feed your Mandarin without any of your other fish wanting to take part as well! Also I dont know how long it will take your FUGE to come up with a very healthy supply of PODS.

My mandarin eats other food as well -I do have pods but he will eat the other food I put in for everybody else-so does my scooter blennie-I feed quite a variety of foods. They are both fat and seem happy! I have had my manadarin for almost 3 years now. :happyfish :happyfish

Well he seems to eat a little bit of everything-I feed a large variety-of frozen and some flake in between. I do see him eat the formula 1 & 2-I break them into tiny peices for my smaller fish. So does my scooter blennie. And my bicolored blennies. :happyfish :happyfish
