I am looking at buying a 30 gallon tank with live sand and rock in it> Should i keep all the sand and water. What else do i need to think about?

First, is the tank an established/cycled tank? How far away from the current location are you moving the tank? What are the inhabitants at this point? Fish, inverts, corals?
I was just involved in moving a 55gal tank (my daughter's) over an hour away from it's previous location. So far, her tank is doing just GREAT.
Any information you can give me will help with adivce.

So your buying an already set up one? If so, and it's been up for awhile I'd keep everything(including water). That way when you set it up at your house you'll avoid the cycle and be able to start stocking as soon as the your water levels are good. Just make sure you have enough containers to carry everything.

yes the tank is cycled. I believe it has been up and running for 3 yrs. Had sea horses in it until he sold them. Now just sand and rock. Would it be a good Idea to get some frags from his other tanks at the same time?????

Great. I would wait with the frags until you have the tank re-set in its new location. Put water into a bin and place LR into that water. Put the rest of the water into other bins (be careful...this stuff gets heavy...more smaller bins are a good idea). Leave enough water, doesn't have to be much, to cover the sand. Have some help on hand to transport the tank, bins, etc. If transporting a distance, be sure to have a heater in the bin with the LR to make sure they stay comfy during transport.
Once at the new location, carefully add water to the tank (use a plate or bowl to cut down on clouding with sand). If you've transported for a distance, let the water in the tank warm before putting the LR in...we ended up having to wait overnight to do this. When you're satisfied that the tank is ready, add your LR and the rest of the water. You will want to have some fresh/heated SW set up just in case as well.
Good luck. It wasn't as scary a project as I thought it was going to be.
Post questions if they come up.
