How to plumb the return line?

I have a 30g long sump setup underneath the 120g tank, bubble traps and all that good stuff already installed in the sump. Now the big question. Last time i had this tank setup i ran the return line from the sump back up to the tank like normal but when the power went off it had a tendency to flood the sump since all the water came rushing back down the return line.
How can i stop this from happening again? Can anyone take a few quick pictures for me please of their return line from the sump back up to the tank? Also what kind of end do you put on the return line in the tank?
Thanks guys, greatly appreciated in advance.

if you drill a small hole in the return about 1/4 inch below the surface the line will lose it's prime when the water goes down. just make sure it's the only thing you have plummed to your sump. I forgot about my refugium and that continued to drain and caused a flood, but the return line had stopped so
i thought everything was ok until I walked on the wet rug.
