Hey guys, I have a choc chip star, ive had him since around Feb. How do i spot feed him, he seems to be doing just fine grazing. Is it important/necessary to spot feed him?? How and with what do i do it?

I would definitely spot feed him 2-3 times/week. They can't survive on algae alone. When you say "grazing", do you ever see him eating any of your inverts? Those would suffice instead of spot feeding.
I usually wait until mine is near the surface. If you catch your leaning one or two arms back, just kind of dangle the piece of food near it. Mine will start to reach out his little tentacles and grab the food. If he is leaning far enough back, I just put the food near his mouth.
Good luck!

Frozen mysis shrimp is not the best choice...it falls apart and is wasteful. Feed something that is meatier and holds together (shrimp, krill, squid, silversides, clam). Remember to be diverse in what you feed.

my star and long-tentacle plate both LOVE tuna... i was making a tuna sandwich and decided that the raw tuna (packed in water) would probably be pretty tasty to my inverts too.

Is it like Chicken of the Sea? In the can? Like you make tuna salad with? If so, that variety isn't raw, it's cooked. :happyfish

It is true for chocolate chip, general and red african stars as well as brittle/serpentstars. Other stars will not so readily accept food, but I would still recommend trying just to see. Otherwise they may be doomed to die of starvation (sand sifters, many Linckia).

My Sand sifter is soooo happy in my 300 gal with DSB.
He looked like he was gonna die in my 46, then I moved him and now he looks great.

I reckon he is much happier :D. If I had to give a tank size for keeping them, I would probably have to go that high!
