Any advice on how to take good pictures? As soon as I use flash, it does not look good. W/O flash it is too dark. would appreciate good photo taking advice.

yeah, I am not the best photographer either so I am interested to hear how people take such amazing shots of their fish.

I do the same thing.....turn out lights in the room and tv too, and use the Auto-Flash feature on my Sony DSC-S90. Sometimes the flash will reflect off the glass, but you can often get decent pics without the glare.

You can see a little glare in this one, top-right corner...

VGA size...

i get the best pics when you put the setting on the flower....and without a flash, then make sure to either use a nice tripod or hold super still....

I am just getting back together from a computer crash.. and lost most of my recent pictures. But I too either use macro. or the flower setting. And if you do use the flash angle the camera down slightly this will help decrease the glare from the flash.

Precisely my method....I just never usea flash. I will sometimes turn off filters/powerheads if I am trying to take a pic of a coral in a spot with lotsa flow. If I am trying to take a picture of a fish, I will use the "sport" setting on my camera
I'd also recommend a good photo program (I use Photoshop) to do some cropping, etc. Oh, and crop before you resize.

I finally figured out that when not using the flash, upping the ISO setting to 200 or 400 makes for way better pics lol, using the macro (flower) setting as well.

If you don't have a tripod, setting the camera flush against the glass makes it much easier to hold still if you take a pic with no flash.
