i don't like to wash either, but only if adding ot an emmpty tank, ti is powdery and will fog bad, so if you have fish and such in there, then this could be a problem, if not, then go ahead and don't worry about it, it will settle
I did not rinse my HD sand when I set up my new tank. just put in a little water (1-2 gal), then added the sand and put some plastic wrap on top of the sand when I added the rest of the water so that it didn't blow all over the place. Result: clear water in 1 day. good luck
It is a 125g 6 year old tank with 5 fish no lr just getting q.t. up nd cycled should i have toput fish i q.t. tank or can i slowy take under gravel filters out and the cc and replace it with the southdown sand???????
i fyou have the means, and can take out the fish to do the massive change, tehn i would and then no chance of a problem with recycling, which more than likely will happen, na dthe clouding would not have to be a concern either

i suggest u wash if u have fish in it. Heres wat u do put sand in one of those big round buckets u get at HomeDepot. Put some of the sand in there and fill there rest with water. Then swish all of the sand around and u will get a bunch of mircy water. Dump that out and then do it over and over until the water is pretty much clear. Hope that helps you
