My tank has been setup since July. I bought my RO filter and started reading Fenner's book back in May which is about when I found this site. Someone had recommended to read at least 200 threads before you get started and that advice was priceless. Thanks to everyone who makes this site possible!!!!

i probably spent a total of 40-50 hours looking through threads on this website before even asking the first question. this is an enormously valuable tool. most people ask before searching...almost any question anyone has can be answered on here...I Love It!!!

I couldn't even tell you the amount of time I spent on line reading about this hobby but I think I started looking into it about three months before I made my first purchase.

Been thinking about getting one for a few years and read a few books, enough to change from my original idea of a 50g tank to a 150g tank, but none of my reading really answered all my questions, just created more questions.

I purchased my tank, stand, powerheads, and light first. Set it up and began to read...big mistake. I had to return the stand and build one from scratch to accomodate the height of the skimmer I bought after researching. Wish I bought a larger tank and one that was predrilled. Although I like my light (Coralife PC) I wish I had invested a little more and got the halides.
Really, I should have bought a 20g first and set up the QT. I didn't get into that til about 8 months down the road when I realized how important it was.
This hobby is so addicting it's hard NOT to buy something before you read, read and read some more about it. Lesson learned!

i just bought everything the LFS told me i needed (plastic hydrometer, dechlorifier for tap water
, they tried talking me into crushed coral but for some reason i got live sand) and i just figured it would be the same as FW, until i added the 5 damsels that the LFS told me would be good after i had water in the tank for 2 days
, they all died, so i found this site and really started reaserching
