i have for a long time been Hypo-ing every new fish i get as to be sure no ick ever enters my display. the one time i didnt due to an oversight, it cost me nearly my entire fish stock, so now i have been restocking. One of my first fish that i have for about 2 years before he jumped ship was also one of my favorites, a yellow coris, or canary wrasse. these wrasse sleep in the sand bed, so i am trying to figure out a way to perform hypo in my QT tank, which is BB. any suggestions? i am thinking a tupperware filled with sand could work?....

Not sure if it will except a seperate container with sand.....IMO, just put some clean sand in the QT bottom....why do hypo if the fish is healthy ?....just observe it while in normal salinity and if you see ick, then start the hypo....

When I qt'd my diamond goby I added a few cups of sand to the bottom of the qt. I poured it all in a pile and let him shift it around.

dogstar, from my experience 80% of fish i have received from LFS to online either have ick or some other problem so instead of waiting 30 days to see ick , which i have, id rather just do hypo from the time i start. however with this fish maybe i will just let him ride without hypo when i get him.
i have a 29g tall tank so to get 2-3" of sand in there would be costly for something im just going to throw out, as i run QT's with zero calcerous substances normally. will 5-10 lbs of dry aragonite cycle in a cycled tank? i suppose a little bit. i think i will try a wide tupperware with sand in it, so that it takes up maybe half of the tank.

You could try the tupperware container, be sure that it is free of soap residue. A new one that is rinsed would suffice (ziplock or glad disposable container
) I have two qt's. One has 1/2 an inch plain sand bed. I housed my hawk in it for several months. The other has two scoops of my DT sand. I used that for my goby and have a fuzzy lion in it right now. It will not hurt your qt at all to have some sand in there. You can always remove it later as long as you don't medicate it.
