Hello everyone!
I am very new to setting up a saltwater reef/fish tank and would like opinions on my setup. (I've tried my best by reading these forums to gather the knowledge on these items)
For starters, I have a glass 46 gallon bow front tank with its matching stand (looks nice! ).
( buying all of this from A Competitor, but intend on getting my live stuffs from SWF )
1x - Heater - Jager 200 W Heater 15in
2x - Filter - Hagen - Aqua Clear 70 Hang On Back Power Filter
1x - Waterflow - Sea-Swirl 1in Wave Maker
1x - Skimmer - Aqua Medic Turboflotor Hang On
1x - Water - Captive Purity 75 GPD RO/DI Filter System
1x - Lighting - 36 inch Current USA SunPod 2x150W 14K HQI-MH w/ 18 Lunar
40lb - Live Sand - CaribSea Aragalive Indo-pacific Black Sand
50lb - Live Rock - Ultra Premium Fiji Live Rock
What am I missing, when placing it all together, what do I do next? Any recommendations on what I should get rid of, or keep?
Any feedback you all can provide me would be excellet! (go easy on me, abbreviations, and saltwater fish slang may not sink in so well)
Thanks!

welcome to saltwaterfish.com!
I have a 46 gallon bow front as well
K for startes the owners of swf.com ask us not to post the names of direcet competitors you might want to edit that out.
heater sounds good
the filter will not be adiquit for a saltwater tank. you might want to look into a sump setup
sea swirl is good you would save alot more money buy buing the maxi jets somthing like a 900 and a 1200

Cool, thanks for the good feedback. The skimmer is a needle wheel type skimmer...

hey just some imput here the skimmer will work but i think you need to get a additional one or go to the 150 model and do the mods to both them and make it a fuge

I thought about a sump setup, but truthfuly, I do not know what a sump is, what it does, and why I need one.

I took a look at the skimmer and for the price Id get a coralife super skimmer 65. I have one on my 46 and from what I see a super skimmer will blow that aquamedic out of the water

a sump is a tank under neth your stand that hides all of your equipment. you can also add a refugium to house macro algea that will lower your phosphates and nitrates
it works real simple you need a overflow box to siphone the water out of your tank and into the sump a sump or fuge and a pump to send it back to the DT

i personally think the filter might be a little under rated but if you get the aqua clear 150 and make it a fuge you will be good

I started with a turboflotor skimmer. It worked pretty well but there is definetly better options. I would look to upgrade the skimmer down the road.
Not forsure if you have enough flow but I am not famliar with the sea swirl.

Obiji......You are off to a good start! Sign guy is correct...If you can research and set up an overflow system into a sump/refugium you may be happier in the long run. The Coralife skimmer is a better choice than the aquamedic IMHO. Other brand to look at, but pricier....Remoras

Any good recommendations on a sump system? Or can you direct me to some educational material about sumps?

the last pic is my fuge.
A fuge is a seprete tank that has baffles in it so that water can be directed through a type of macro algea ( I use chato) so that it can aid with high phosphate levels and high traight levels. In a nut shell its another filter
here are a few pics a refugiums

Obiji...You are to be commended for your diligence in trying to research and asking questions about setting up a SWF tank. Wish I had been that smart when I first started!
