So, without me spending HOURS checking and reading (I wanna get it while the gettin's good!).......
We'd like to get an emperor angel, a dwarf angel (flame or lemon peel). Right now I have a royal gramma and two percs, along with some inverts.
Should I go with a 180 or a 240? And, what else could I put in either along with the five fish listed above? And, does anyone have any thoughts on which would be the more economical as far as equipment? The tanks are the same length, so lights might be the same for either, but could I use the same skimmer? how many more PHs, etc?
And, finally, a recommendation for lights for this tank? No corals, just FOWLR
Thanks! I'm SOOOO excited :jumping: that he's actually wanting this tank. He wants cooool fish, not my boring three fish in my 35g.

#1 cost will be adding LR you will need $400 + more in LR for the 240gal.
with a 180 you can add a TANG and a Butterfly (as long as you never want an anemone for the clowns).
you may like a school of 7 green chromis as well.
most will say let tank mature (4-6 months) before adding an angel. it will take 3 months to cycle and cure the added rock etc. lights: some of the new CP with moon are great, i love'em, and dont cost $$$$ like MH. if you have a hood you could look into VHO,also a good deal.
PS make sure the floors can hold 180+ gal.
good luck

I've got 100 lbs of LR now along with 100 lbs of LS - can I move some/most of the rock to the new tank? I figure I'll need about 300 pounds more.
Patience is a virtue that I'm learning - I can wait another six months to get the large angel. I'm thinking I might add a flame or lemonpeel to my 35, set up the 180/240 and then cycle! Gotta have my new fish fix - haven't added anything new in a few months.

get the biggest tank you can afford. because if you dont you'll always want the bigger one and end up buying it and spending more money in the long run. and its great to have a huge tank lol... id go with the 240 myself

good feed back form others...
IMO a "WOW" 180, is still better then a SO-SO 240.
if you got the $$$$$ to do the 240 go for it.
you can seed the new tank with the LR & LS from your 35.
look into 100lb of base rock, a lot less $$$ and good deal if your rock has good color on it now.
180-240 im not sure, but i feel you can do most fish in both.
its a nice problem to have 180 or 240 hummmmmm:notsure:

krowley -- 100 pounds of LR is a lot in the 35 - the original plan was to switch to a 125 this summer and go for a mandarin. I figured a lot of rock would be fine (and it does look nice) while I didn't have a lot of fish and it would establish it for the 125 and the mandarin. Now, I'm going to forego the mandarin and go for BIG!!
My dad says he can build me a stand, canopy and light kit - probably the sump, too - which will help with the $$

Go 240 you'll be glad you did. Plus you're already saving a bunch of money by your dad building things for you.
