This is an inground tank that has no lighting other than sun/moon. The front top part is glass so that you can see into the pool.

That's a huge tank, can't even imagine trying to move or lift it...Why didn't the guy go with acrylic?
amazing got any other pics of that tank?

IMO, jonthefishguy was giving some advice, not a sarcastic remark. I have seen LFS' that don't know some basic things about keeping a tank. I think I may very well have said the same thing after reading it is in the front window. I mean why would anyone assume/think it will only be displayed at night??
Please, should you feel someone is making a sarcastic comment, just LEAVE IT. There are some who get the blame here for assuming a sarcastic comment was made and then make it personal. Please do not escalate it, just carry on. This was a totally unnecessary exchange.

I agree, John's comment was taken the wrong way.

If that is the way you feel, then don't listen, and ignore him. You took the bait (which in all honest I STILL can't see in Jon's post) and escalated the argument.
As mentioned, I likely would have said something very similar in terms of putting a tank in a window.
Please learn to ignore people you don't value advice from, but I will suggest that you still keep an ear open to listening now and then. He may be a "know it all" in your book, but you are not looking like a mature adult at the moment either.

I would advise you to ignore him, and perhaps he will do the same for you. It would be unfortunate for this sort of thing to continue.

I agree it's a bit immature the way I've been, but this is the second time with this guy, so I do stay away from his threads, He has nothing nice to say not to mention 50% of his advise is wrong. He was to good to take advise in the past , so there for I have no time for him.

IME in many cases, advice is neither right nor wrong, it is opinion, and they are very different. I may completely disagree with some advice given, but it may not be wrong. There are many ways to get things done.
So you will see on this board exchanges of advise and opinions that are completely opposed. So long as it is done productively (which doesn't always happen) it allows people to get a full range of information from which to base their own conclusions.
When not done productively, it quickly detracts from the whole point of the thread. :(
So let's move past that :)

lol, he probably didn't notice that you are so far up north. Look where he is from. We have heating problems with tanks in December, my tank right now is 82 degrees with no heater. And we have 12 hour days all year round. A tank in direct sunlight is going to have alot of green in it. Personally I just hope this doesn't happen.

wow i missed out on this thread
I was just busy up here in canaduh building my igloo.
Anyways Just for the record I married a yankee. And I have a lot of family down there. Hmmm
"Canadians go figure" that is a great remark that one really has me wondering just what do I respond to that one with. (I will get back to that)
Anyways IMO.. This is half the problem with forms everyone wants to show how much they know and when someone posts something they think is cool or something they have accomplished it gets some flak. Now flak is cool in some ways but when preached. well it gets messy as we all have our opinons and we end up in a thread like this. Anyways ophiura is right that post should have been either reworded so as not a dis but maybe a concern about a front window. Or myself and hunted should have inorged but hey I am Canadian. And that brings me back to the first part of this Long a** point that I am making. To make it personal or to through a comment like that, well that is a bad mistake. To insult a heritage of someone.. well it never really is a good thing... To make it sound like a persons hertiage is not equal to there own well that is just... Damn forms I really have to bite my lip on this one. Anyways I hope most americans don't feel this way about canadians. And if I hear a remark like that again,, I will just keep on laughing.
Anyways this thread should be deleted as it has gotten messy.

I know of atleast a dozen or so tanks that have natural sunlight.
I can only assume that it's going to be a FOWLR tank, should look very impressive
You have assumed right.
I wish I lived somewhere warm to enjoy the pond /tank.

I prefer threads to "make a comeback" on their own, but it won't happen here because of some issues.
Much of what went on here were a lot of assumptions about tone, which is a risk on boards.
I am married to a Canadian and there is a lot of banter about each other, both ways. Again, that is how I read it once everyone jumped on Jon for no apparent reason and now all of a sudden people hate Canadians and people hate Americans because of Jon. The inappropriate replies to Jon began before his comment, which is certainly one that can be misinterpreted, I'll agree.
But come on, give it up!!
Let me make it clear, I see NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER with Jon's original post. So to state that my point is that he should have reworded it is not true and missing my point entirely. The snarky comeback is where the inappropriate exchange began, and then it was escalated from there. There are MANY people at fault here.
I would advise everyone to grow up a bit, and ignore advice you don't care about. This was a downright childish exchange.
Good luck on this tank. Be prepared to take advice, even that you don't like, as "big tanks" become as different from standard tanks as nanos are. There is a lot of big tank experience on this board (I have had to clean the glass of a 3500g reef everyday that was inside, and it took a loooonngg time). But whatever you do, don't escalate threads when people disagree.
THread closed, not deleted, per general consensus. Hopefully people can learn a bit from it.
