no ...i did treat him ..he has a fungal/bacterial outbreak .....i treated him and he got a little better but now two weeks later basically his whole body is covered in the fungus , loss of many scales, his fins everyone of them are closed up tight and he struggles to swim....today it looks like he may go.....i'm basically treating the tank to prevent the others from getting sick which one already has the beginnings....

Get some clove oil, put fish in anonther container, add some clove oil, wait until fish rolls over. If adding clove oil fish does not roll over in a minute or two add some more clove oil. Just use a container large enough to put fish in and enough water to support and cover fish. Once fish rolls over, its in all reality knocked out so feel free to either take a knife to it and cut the head off or leave in clove oil for a long period of time (30 minutes or so, or just place in plastic bag and place in deep freeze once its knocked out.
Most times bacterial infections and fungas is totally treatable if the proper meds are used and not those so called pima or mela fix or some of that crap they sell in lfs that makes exhorbarant claims. Best is a dip in potassium permanganate which will wipe out any and all signs of fungal infections then treat with spot applications of iodine or hydrogen peroixide, apply neosporin or panalog ointment, covered with denture cream or powder to form a protective cover over worst parts of sores, and place in antibiotic doesed tank with proper gram neg or pos for what your treating. Tetracycline is the preferred choice or a broad spectrum triple sulpha.
There is a reason your fish got sick, and if its in the house ina tank along with others of decent size its a good potential its a water quality problem as thats what sets off most bacterial infections and fungal attacks on goldies...Once water is too warm or too nasty with pathogens they can catch crap pretty darn fast..and it does not take much ammonia or nitrite to give em problems. They caught the fungal infection and the bacterial is a secondary illness brought on by the fungal infection.

Actually this is wrong as they have found fish do feel. Quickest way is to smack it in the head with a hammer. Gross, but instant death.

Yes they do, but that doesn't mean that the cold is painful. This is especially true of goldfdish who survive in a hibernation like state in frozen over ponds.

I was also taught that the freezer was the humane way. Put it in a ziploc bag with some tank water and then put it in the freezer. It will slowly go to sleep as it freezes.

I've always heard that for euthanizing reptiles, go to fridge for two hours to slow metabolism, then freezer. Fish (being ecto-thermic) may respond similarly.

I was told to put them in a container of ICE WATER---then put them in freezer. QUICK way to go.....seems less traumatic than being captured and then put in a bag and then put in the dark freezer to slowly freeze.
Fortunately, I've only had to do it once, but it seemed to go smoothly/quickly. I put a handful of ice cubes and about a pint of cold water from the faucet in a tupperware type bowl. After it sat for a few minutes, I let the fish go to heaven by putting him in the bowl.

There are Many methods and who's is best is opinion. I think the proper thing to do is take full responsibilty for the animal and try to nurse it back to health. If not then it will die by the bacteria, fungus etc.

I'd definitely keep them in the dark, however you cold euthanize. The idea is to have their heart stop with them being in the least conscious state possible. I've only done this with herps, though.
Personally, I've killed hundreds fish by swiftly slamming the part of the net containing the fish onto a hard surface. Worked at an LFS, I don't kill that many fish these days!

Well they use oil of clove as an anesthetic to knock a fish out so they can scope it or treat it in the koi world and it is proven to knock a fishout totally just like a person getting put under an anesthetic, so put it under a deep sleep and then serve up the coupe de grace' with a knife or freezer......I htink the fastest would be knock it out with clove oil and drop a concrete block on it or lop off its head, or a knife jab behind the eye and on the lateral line. All may sound gruesome but they are effective. The behind the eye and on the lateral line should put you on the brain as its a target for when you spearfish and is very effective in making a quick clean kill.
