Humidity problem, cold climate

Recently moved from california to portland oregon, and am finding that it is no longer convenient to just leave the windows open, as it ends up running the household heater all day. The down side is that i am having a lot of moisture condensation on my windows and door in my living room (fish area).
Has anyone come up with a solution to combat the humidity problem in an area like mine, a place where opening windows or doors is impractical? Thinking dehumidifier or something maybe?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Oregon!!
Wow, you must have a real tight sealed house. I don't have any condensation problems, but then I heat mostly with a pellet stove and a wood stove and they take the moisture out of the air. You might have the try the dehumidifyer.
What local stores are you going to in the Portland area?

Do you have storm windows? If you do you might try closing them and see if that helps. I live in Minnesota and the climate changes are drastic here. Insulation always helps these problems. The condensation on your windows is from the dramatic change in temperature from one side of the glass to the other. It does not necessarily mean that it is because your house is especially well sealed or especially humid. It is probably just warmer in the fish area of the house due to your aquarium lights and heater, which is why you notice it the most in that part of the house. Also, window treatments may help as well, such as curtains or honeycomb blinds.
Let me know if this helps.
Good Luck.

Well we do not have storm windows, but as an experiment i ran without heat in the room all day, a little more effort on my tank heater, but the condensation really did peter off. Thanks for the idea.
As for shops, I live about a mile from Souta's, and i visited Hollywood the other day. Prices here are a lot higher than they were in california for live stock, maybe thats due to proximity to san francisco and Los angeles in my old town. Love woutas, when i make the move to reef, ill be buying one of each of his frags.

Oh yeah, I have storm windows too, so that's probably why I don't get condensation. Didn't even think of that. It's just the usual raining Pacific Northwest, we have to get used to it. It's easy for me to say because I was born here.
I drive all the way from Keizer to Vancouver, Wash to go to Deep Sea Gallery. They are by far the best store in the Portland area.
