:notsure: will fish act odd if nitrite levels are over 15-20?
eating well, just swimming odd and very agressive to others.

That is a lethal level, so I would say yes. Both ammonia and nitrite is lethal to fish. Mass water changes are in order.

sorry yes nitrate....
i have a 72 and did 10gal water change.
looks like its under 10 now.
i also put nitrate rocks in my skimmer basket...
the fish seems calmer now.
its a butterfly, all other fish acting normal.
any good test kits?
the one i have is hard to tell the color, depending on how the kight is hitting it.

Put it under a nice bright reading lamp when you take the reading. And consistently use the same light when taking readings.

I think of Nitrate as being like Smog.
There's the air in Montana and then there's LA. It's not that harmful if you're healthy but if you're sick it can do you in. Mostly just annoying.
