We've had "Sun" for 2 weeks-tomarrow. She is eating seaweed selects and spiriluna (sp.) flakes. I like to think she is eating some of the hair algae(bad hair day), but the lighting schedule change is helping more than anything, I think.

Zoos may be in the future. Exile has me thinking of carnation coral. . .

THanks! You are most kind. OUr tank has been running since April of last year. It finished cycling in time for ME to recieve a cleaner crew from this lovely establishment for my birthday. :jumping:
We have been trading some and buying some coral. It is still bare looking to me. We may get a torch coral or a hammer in the near future.
Exile has a thread with some GREAT pics on it. THere is one of some carnation coral that spread in his tank. He has the same lighting as us, so we may try one of those as well.
I'm rambling . . . .

Nope. There is a white dot where the tail and the body are connected. Then, a rough looking "rumble strip" patch along thir side(at least this one). Other than that, nope.

are you sure there is nothing where that white dot it???? i was sure there was something there....in our lfs the yellow tang kept backing up towards another fish, and i thought his tail had something there...

that white dot is thier sharp "scalpel" that they use to "cut" when they are being territorial or defensive. This is why they are called "surgeon fish". It can be a very painful cut to another fish or even you if it gets you because it is so sharp.

What is with all the tag questions? You shopping for a bigger tank, Bronc? Get one you can swim in if you are!!

Whoa. That is like finding out the Easter bunny has FANGS or something. How big is this scalpel? Does it retract? I obviously need more study on this thing.

P.S. Can you tell I'm new?

Being new is not a bad thing. You are asking questions and thats all that matters.
It's not a huge scalpel, but it is sharp. It does not retract however.

Thanks for the info, Lion. I see what Bronc was talking about now.

I can't get the image of a red-eyed killer fluffy tang in our tank! :scared: With woverine hair to boot.

This post began the trip toward unveiling my ignorance of tangs. Seaweed selects is a brown macro algae. She likes it. We also have some live chaeto in the tank, but I don't think she prefers it over the other stuff if she eats it at all. I have not seen her eat chaeto.
