well i came home yesterday to my 2 green spotted puffers hiding in the corner with their tails almost completely gone and bite marks all over them. and my humu is the culprit. right now i have the lights off so there is no aggression and the puffers can actually come out and play. but every time the lights go on within 5 min the humu goes straight to them. idk why this is happening, it leaves everything else in the tank alone. including a wimpy skunk clown. any ideas to break the aggression? i plan to move him into my qt for a few days or until my gsps get better. then see if i can move him back in. ger idk what to do other than that

Humu's are very aggressive fish, esp. toward slower moving puffers. You are going to have to choose between your puffers or the Humu...

I would have to agree. At this point you will likely have to choose one or the other. Even if you change it's surroundings at this point, I don't see it changing much once the trigger settles in again. It has found a couple of toys to occupy its day.

Huma Triggers are hit or miss, I had one that never showed any aggression for the five years I had him. Which tank are these fish in? You have a few listed in your profile.

Sure; the cute little Humas (and Nigers) that every LFS has are gorgeous, personable fish. But sooner or later, most turn into real aggressive triggers. When a trigger takes a dislike to a fish; especially a weaker one, they are unrelenting and will usually wind up killing it. "Humas Gone Wild" is one of the most common thread on this forum.

Hi. I dont know how big your tank is, but if it is big enough, maybe you could put a divider in the tank and let the Humu be on one end and the puffers be in the other? I dont know if that could work, but its a thought.

From what I have heard about Humu Humu's, they are very strange when it comes to slow moving fish like puffers. They may be fine with them for months or even years and then decide to turn on them. Bottom line is that the Humu will likely kill your puffer(s) in very short order, so I would find a new home for him.

they're in the a 125
stocklist is
2-gsp's
1-humu
1-sfe
1-skunk clown
1-blue dot toby
1-LMB
1-lyretail hawkfish
i had the lights off for the past 2 days and just turned them on today. so far there has been no aggression and i am leaning to think the puffers started the conflict because they are the boss of the tank.
if any aggression does take place i'm going to move the humu to my qt then decide what to do from there.

Your puffers are no longer the boss! Turning off the lights, rearranging rocks, etc. are only a very short temporary fix... You really need to choose between the 2 or your gonna be missing a puffer or 2....
I no longer have my Humu, for this very reason.

Sucks to have to make the choice, but from what I've heard, once a fish like a Humu gets agressive, he will pick on MANY types of fish. Might want to find a new home for him...
