Husband want lobster for 75gl

Our 75gl is sitting with nothing live in it. (the fish we had died when we moved, we haven't added anything).
He wants to get a lobster. The big ones they sell at the store. He figures he's prolonging its life and giving it more room.
he wants me to ask here if anyone has kept a large labster in a home tank, if so, for how long, what did you feed it, ect...
a water change and water testing will be done before anything is added. The 75gl is his...

dont really have much advise to give but figured i would chime in anyways for some reason this reminds me of that episode of the simpsons where homer gets a pet lobster (pinchy) and well you know the rest if you seen the show

or just like a purple lobster or something to that degree?

If you are talking about a maine Lobster then I would think you would need a chiller because they live in very cold waters. Other than that I have no idea.

Yep. He thinks it would be more hardy than a purple lobster...
I think the empty tank is bugging him, the LFS sucks and doesn't have anything...we don't have timet to drive half-hour to an hour-half to get fish for the 75gl. He wants to get a lobster from the round tank at wal-mart...the kind they sell to eat at about $10 a pound...

Im guesing for a regular eating lobster you weed need cold water temps. Most of them come from cold water areas. Maybe 4 or 5 chllers and you could keep one.

I dont think it would live long, those things are VERY poorly taken care of, as far as pets. They are for eating and are treated as such, meaning they load them up with drugs and things to keep them healthy for the time being, but will die after not too long, plus i wouldnt trust that they dont have some kind of copper treatment, so they dont rot or get fuzzy in their tanks, which could possibly leach into your reef tank.

Get the tank temp UP to about 225 degrees (just about boiling) THEN Toss him in...
Oh, and melt the butter in a seperate pan...

copper's not an issue, the 75gl is empty. has cc but that's easy to replace. I have all the live from it in my 75gl.

Yep chiller. Need to be 50 to 68 degrees and a large tank. I still do recommend the 225 degree for short term.

I am jsut wondering why not just get a purple lobster and not waste the money to buy chillers.....................also do u have any live rock? cause the cold temps could kill it (the stuff on it)

Take some tips from Homer Simpson. Learn how to raise your own big, juicy lobster.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Weeks
Here's How:
1. Purchase the smallest lobster from your local grocery or
local seafood store.
2. Place the lobster in a fish tank full of water.
3. Pour enough salt into the tank to keep the lobster alive. Fine tuning is required.
4. Feed the lobster a steady diet of bacon, eggs, sausage links, and risotto.
5. Weigh the lobster daily. If you are on the scale with the lobster, subtract your weight from the total. Refer to your driver's license for your weight.
6. Place the lobster in an inflatable pool. It is now a free-range lobster.
7. Occasionally take the lobster for a walk at the beach.
8. When the lobster is large enough, give it a nice, hot bath.
9. Eat the lobster. Try not to cry.
Tips:
Be careful not to put too much salt in the fish tank.
Lobster tastes extra delicious when dipped in melted butter.

gollus, Maine lobster are not treated with anything. That is perposterous(Ive been waiting to use that word )
The consumption almost always outweighs the supply, hence the huge cost of the 'cockroach of the sea'. So they dont hand around long enough to need treatment.
By the way, on keeping a lobster in a tank. They live LONG lives. A lobster that is big enough to eat(legal size) is at LEAST 7 years old. It takes them that long to gain that size. A large lobster in a panic, flopping its tail to scoot backwards would scare me that it may crack the tank glass. Their exoskeletons are very hard. Ever tried to crack an UN-cooked lobster?
