You can use a turkey baster on the live rock when you vacuum do a section at a time during each water change

For spot cleaning of LR (debri, undesirable critters like flatworms, etc) I use a section of pipette and a length of airline hose. This creates a mini-siphon and can clean where needed. I have also been able to remove small patches of hair algae by scraping the rock w/the pipette while siphoning. It doesn't take off the algae completely but the remaining portion disappears w/in a couple of days.
Hope this helps!

i guess blowing the lr off with a power head is not a good idea. learn something new here everyday. i use to use my python on all of my freshwater tanks,sw whole new ballgame

I use a turkey baster as well, to blow off stuff at the same time I am changing out water, then suck it out with the syphon hose. As far as the ls, I have a diamond goby now that keeps it stirred up, but before him I would lightly stir the very top if there were any brown areas. You really start stirring up ammonia and the nasties if you attempt to stir it up deep, so I never messed with that.
