I'm thinking of putting the hydor flo on an mj1200 that i have or get the hydor powerheads. anyone recommend either of these? and what would a good size hydor powerhead be for a 28? i'm also thinking of putting a small powerhead in a 10 with the hydor flo.. or should i not put a ph in? it's going to have one of those topfin filters to keep my chaeto rated for a large tank

I have two of the hydor flo on two of my maxijets. I assume you are talking about the rotating heads. I think they work very well. They do cut down on the flow a bit.
I also have a hydor Korlia 4 power jet which I really like. They run about $60 bucks and have a 1200 gph flow rate. But, the flow is very broad and not concentrated like the maxijets.

for a 28 gal tank, a couple of the hydor koralia # 1's would be great.
Put one on each side blowing into each other for a nice, turbulent, random flow.

i was looking for something that didnt have a concentrated stream like the MJs, so it looks like the koralias would be best. thanks!

sounds like the koralia would be better than attaching the rotating head to the maxijet. how does it cut down the flow?

It reduces the flow....some posters think as much as half. If you are going to use one. Placing it on the maxijet 1200 would be best. But, the koralia are by far best. Alot of gph with out the concetrated stream.
I run both and are happy with them. I use the flo's over my green start polyps. As they rotate, kind of gives a wave effect. The koralia is use for flow over my rockwork and my Xenias get nice flow from that also.

just got the hydor korlia #1, and i'm happy with it so far. i wish i would have gone with 2 instead of 1. i also went ahead and bought a hydor flo for the mj1200, but i've taken it out since i've had some heating issues with it. i kept wondering why my tank was at around 79 or so, and it turned out to be the mj1200. since it's been out it's been at a steady 75.
so i basically have a hydor flo and i'm not going to be using it : i did try it though, pretty cool. but there were a lot of moments where bursts of micro bubbles were dispersed into the tank--not cool.
thinking of maybe buying the mj600 for my 10 and attach the hydor flo
then again, i'mnot sure if itll make a mess of things

Why not try the mj1200 with the hydor flo to it? I think it really does cut down the flow, I've been using it on my mj1200 in my 72 for sometime. Also added one to my 20H mj1200, seems fine, although for the first few days my nano percs were so over powered by the current. They are doing great now though, been about 3 months. I'd give it a shot since ur not using it at the moment.
Hope it works out for ya.

Any product we put into a tank has a chance of giving off stray voltage, which is what sounds like happened here. The koralia powerheads are the best I've used, especially for the price. I have 4 #4's in my 150 gallon and love them. not too bulky.

^^^ never seen a koralia in person, but i heard they were kinda big and bulky... i had decided to go with the tunze turbelle nano stream 6045 instead but the price difference is about $30.
azaintcold - how far does the koralia extend from the glass? They both put out about 1200 gph and i heard the koralia gives a more even directional flow rather than a straight foward shot.

about three inches or so. I have them all on the back wall of the tank pointing in different directions since they swivel very nicely. They have a nifty magnet/ suction cup to hold them in place without worry of them falling off too.

does anyone know how they hydor's compare to the tunze nanostreams? I have two nanostreams and need one more powerhead, but dont know if i should get another tunze or a hydor.

azaintcold you have four #4 in your 150. thats crazy. not talkin ish. just wondering how does the sand take it and are coral over powered.

I'm sorry, typo. 4 #3's my mistake. Still some great flow. the sand and corals take it fine, its on its way to being an sps tank so more flow the better IMO. It has about 29-30x turnover.

I am running both a tunze nanostream 6025 and a koralia #4 in my tank.
the koralia has way way more flow than the tunze. The flow pattern is wider and more dispersed than the tunze.
The tunze does have a much smaller footprint in the tank. the koralias are kinda big.
If I was going to add another to my tank it would be the koralia.
