Hydrometer pegging out

Ok I checked with my wifes old hydrometer and it pegged out at the top. So I thought it might be broken since we have a test fish in there and he had been fine for over a week. So I bought another hydrometer when at the store today and it reads the same. Since I am new I need to know how I go about lowering this down to 1.025. I have read the forums and assume I am to add RO water what is this and where does it come from?

Get a refractor.....hydros are not that good. Had one initially and it read at 1.028. Got a refractor and real reading was 1.015. If you had the true reading, then you know what it really needs.
You can get RO (reverse Osmosis filtered) water at walmat (green cap) for .69 cents a gallon.

I totally agree with Marka, get a refractometer...it'll be the best investment you'll make for the health of your tank. I also started out with a hydrometer (swing arm) and I swore up and down that my readings were 1.025-1.026. When I received my refractometer for Christmas one year, I took a reading and my tank was at 1.030
Besides, it's a great toy and sure makes setting up water for changes a WHOLE lot easier!! RO, yeah, you can get that at Wal Mart. It's water that's been specially filtered to get rid of most, if not all contaminants that could compromise your tank/critters.

Very good point by Lisa about making life easier when it comes to water changes. I think it is the one piece of equipment that has earned it's keep in regards to accuracy and making upkeep easier.
