Hydrometer

What do the fancy floating hydrometers look like? I was planning on getting a refractometer but found a glass hydromerter that floats on the surface vertically. I remember seeing somewhere that there are nicer floating hydrometers that are accurate and was wondering if the one I found with the tank was a nicer one?

i got one on the auction site (make sure you get a salinity refractometer
it was 20 bucks and more accurate than any hydro

Floating hydrometers do not have ATC (auto temp compensation) like even the cheapest refractometers have today. Chances are your tank temp won't be the same as the required degree for the hydrometer.

I agree; and I always found them hard to read---but that's probably me. I still don't know why someone can't make a reasonably accurate swing arm hydrometer; such a simple device should be easy.

one tiny air bubble on the arm throws the whole thing off
and salt residue will eventually build up on the hinge.. even with good cleaning habits

they removed the perfectly good classified forum (where I had sold numerous items for great prices) and made it an "auction" forum complete with seller fee's. the fact that forum/section no longer exist speaks to how well that went over
