I've seen a refractometer with a thermometer on it.

Look up American marine pinpoint monitors they have several different monitors for testing most parameters in a marine aquarium. The salinity monitor is about $115.

the reason why I ask is because I saw a picture on this site of some guys tank that had a LCD right underneath and he called it a life alert or something odd like that, had temp, salinity, and a few other vital things... not really sure. I have been searching endlessly for it again

Can't pm a link as its against the rules but if you google American marine it will give you a link to their site. There are aquarium controllers that monitor salinity also plus a variety of other parameters. I just ordered a "Reefkeeper Elite" and it will monitor PH, Temp, and ORP for now with additional parameters available in the future. Plus it will control my pumps, lights, heaters, or whatever other electronics I plug into it.

The only multiple monitors I have ever seen offered were for PH, ammonia and temp but they are for fresh water Seachem makes what they call alerts they work on the test strip principle you put them inside your tank on the glass and you get a visual reading they are individual though you can get one for PH and one for ammonia i think they are good for six months

At about $500. A unit it’s a little pricey. Still if you want constant monitoring as well as controlling electrical devices it will do the job but I believe the only probes it will read right now are ph and temp

Yes it was a little steep but, I really like the modular design of this system. It will allow me to monitor and control multiple tanks as soon as I convince my wife to let me have more than one
and as they add new modules you can add them to your existing system rather than replace the entire controller. They already have the ORP probes and I believe they mentioned something about having a module for salinity available by the end of the year.
Since I do a fair amount of traveling out of town I will be able to monitor the parameters of my tank remotely and set up alarms to shut down lights, pumps ect.. if there is a problem so that will give me piece of mind when I am away.
Aquadyne and Aquatronica already have controllers and I am sure there are others that monitor these parameters but they are even more expensive. A cheaper solution is the Reefkeeper II ($200) but you lose the modular design.
