Hypo Questions

Hi all,
I just started Hypo in my FO display tank. How quickly should my fish appear to be spot free after reaching 1.009? Thanks. Scott

It may seem the ick has disappeared sooner, but give it a month to be sure. I just got done doing a hypo on my FO, and the inverts are back in the tank.
Glad it is over.

I still have some spots on the fish. How soon after reaching 1.009 should I expect to no longer see spots on the fish. Scott

It is not the hypo conditions that make the spots on your fish disappear but, rather the lifecycle of the parasite itself. Hyposalinity is not going to kill off the ich while it is attached to the fish. Hypo prevents the parasite from reproducing once it is off the fish.
So, the spots will disappear depending on where they are at in their life cycle, not on hypo. Spots should be gone within about a wk.

And on top of that.... what if hyposalinity is not an option? Then what should be done to get rid of the ick?

Jason,
My understanding is that Yes, when done properly, Hypo alone can kill Ick. If it is not an option, you should get a QT tank. None of the medications really work very well. Scott
