Hypo Resistant Ick???

Is there any such thing as hypo resistant Ick? I have been in Hypo for 1 month. My salinity is at 14 ppm. I am measuring it with a refractor. How can I still have ick in my tank. Yes, I am sure that it is ick? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Scott

Yes, there could be and likely will be at some point.
Is your refreactometer calibrated?
Can you post a picture of the problem?
An alterantive treatment would be copper. The procedure is detailed in the ich post in the FAQ Thread.

Hi Beth,
Yes, I have checked my calibration. It is correct. I can not post a picture, but I am positive of the diagnosis. I am treating the fish in my display tank. I have no Inverts, just live rock which is now base rock due to the hypo. Can I do copper in the display tank. I am concerned about using any chemicals period. I have also tried formalin baths without success. What do you think? Scott

You can't run copper in the display tank if you want to later have inverts. The copper is likely to stick around even if you run carbon and clean the tank. Any way you can set up a QT tank?

Absolutely do not put any copper in that tank. Formalin baths won't work for ich.
Describe what you see and what has gone on.

Beth,
I have white spots on my Powder Blue tang and box fish. I placed them in Hypo about 3 weeks ago and after about one week, the white spots disappeared. They came back about a week later even though the tank was still in Hypo. I have kept the salinity level at 1.0008 and check it using my refractor every day I have even calibrated it twice to make sure that it was accurate. Anyway the tang is getting worse as is the Boxfish.

Well, the other treatment for ich is copper. I can't say its a great idea to treat in the display.

Is it possible they went from a case of saltwater ick to a case of freshwater ick? How much salt can freshwater ick tolerate?
