hypo salinity

Yes, I have. I moved whatever inverts I could catch, and half of my live rock out before I did it. The Hypo will kill off critter on your live rock but not the bacteria. I left some rock in the tank because I wanted to be sure that I had plenty of bacteria. Once it was complete, I moved everything back. You cannot tell the difference between those rocks that I left in and those that I took out, although I have no doubt that there was less life on those that were left in.
Let me know if you need any help.

thanks
Please post what you need help with. You can post in Disease and Treatment if you would like. There are many people there to help you. We can walk you through any problem that you may have. Dinogeorge posts there as well. He is very good

thanks guys. i moved all of my inverts over but kept all of my rock in the tank. i started lowering the salinity yesterday.
I bought a townsend angel and it got very stressed with the move and came down with ick and with in 2 days transferred it to everyone else, school of yellow tangs and a pink tail trigger.

The rock should not be in your tank unless it is just base. You will kill everything but the bacteria on your rock. Be sure to lower the SG in 48hrs. What are you using to measure the SG? Please post this in D&T!

well my reasoning to keeping the rock in there was to kill off the pest anenomes that came with a bunch of live rock i bought with the tank.
i am using a refractometer. I currently am at 1.020 and lowering.

so for the last 3 days i have been at a constant 1.010 and since then everyone is more active and seemed more happy but yesterday and today i can see that the ick is much worse.. does it take time? or should new ick not be hosting?
thanks

To my knowledge, the salinity has to be at 1.009. The ick (I believe) can live at 1.010
Have you seen any spike in other levels?

i checked the levels 2 days ago and everything was fine. i check again when i get home tonight. anyone else have any input. during the first stages of hypo is it possible for more ick to host the fish?
thanks

It absolutely will. The ich "panics" and they all try to attatch. Your sg should be at 1.009 ich can still live and attatch at 1.010

I have a 125 gallon fowlr that i would like to do hypo on. I plan on taking half the rocks out and leaving the rest behind for bio filtration.
BUT, i've read that doing hypo on live rock is a big no no. This will kill all life and cause a huge ammonia spike. I also have a shallow sand bed full of worms which i think i should remove before attempting to hypo.
How big are your tanks and how long have they been set up before you hypo?

well... the ick has started to kill of my fish i think... my butterfly fish died, and it looks like my hybrid angle isnt going to make it, i tested all the water again for any spikes, trates, trites, ammonia are all 0.

Make sure your SG does not get down to 1.008! Fish cannot live in those conditions. It's a very delicate process. SG has to be, and remain at, 1.009. Any higher will allow the ich to live, lower will kill your fish. You will have to top off 1-2 times a day.

I actually do not agree. It is not a big deal at all if the SG reaches 1.008, as long as it does not stay there for the durration of the treatment. Have you checked your PH?

ph is staying in the 8.2 range, i checked the salinity every so often and its staying at .009
i woke up today and my angel has died.. im really getting frustrated. i dont know why they are dying i figured the lower salinity will keep their stress levels down enough for them to recover.

I stand corrected.
