How fast can I drop to 1.009? I've read so many different things ranging from a matter of hours to days.

It depends what your salinty is currently. But not hrs. Generally a day to 2 days. It must be done slowly, but be exact. Iam guessing your trying to kill ich . So the 1.009 needs to be dead on and stay there

Yup the Achilles brought home some friends. My salinity is 1.024. What will happen if once it gets down to 1.009 and then goes back up .001-.002?

Ideally, u dont want it to. Its the 1.009 that does the damage to the little bastards. Even a slight increase can allow them to survive. Did u qt him?

Its best to do small diluting water changes several times a day over a 2 day period. If you note any stressful reactions from the fish, then you know you are going too fast.

Be sure to stabilize the pH of your changed out water to at least 8.0 before doing water changes.

Yeah he's in the QT tank. I'll be sure to keep it right at 1.009. Also about the ph I've read it gets hard to keep it up what level is lethal to fish and what effects could low ph have on him

If you stabilize your water pH before it goes into the QT you shouldn't have much of a problem. pH is an important factor and it being stable is just as important as maintaining it a adequate level (at least 8.0).

it depends on what fish you are doing it to. with angels a few days but with my triggers i can do it in an hour no problem. a tang i would recomend like two days. in the begining of my ich episodes i did this so many times. but if he is in a qt i recomend copper. it gets the job done right and fast. five days of your fish in ther is all you need wher hypo takes two to three weeks.

Yup just got one a few weeks ago. I know about the buffer but I think I'll try to use baking soda first.

just add a little untill it is at the desired ph. if it is really low add a tea spoon untill it gets to wher it needs to be.
