I have a 55 Gal. That I have been cycling for a seahorse tank. Well my cycle ended but I wanted to place a small fish in just to be sure. Instead of waiting for my LFS to open the next morning I went to the infamous ***** and grabbed a Damsel. Placed the fish in and all seemed well. I was about to take him out and give him to my LFS when I picked up my seahorses and suddennly I see ich on it. Oh I was so mad!!!!! I had been waiting for my tank to be ready and now it will have to sit longer for the life cycle to end.......Oh I was so mad.
I fished the little guy out and started walking towards the toilet as I had no other option cause I have an aggressive tank and he would have been lunch. Besides I was angry.
Well on the way to the bathroom I had a change of heart and realized it wasn't the fish's fault but my own. I then remembered a 2 1/2 gallon tank my daughter had at one point and decided to make a small nano tank. That is what I did and the guy is getting over his ich in it.
Moral of the story.....Don't be in a hurry and wait for your LFS to open.

I don't think it was a very good idea to begin with. By throwing a very hardy fish like a damsel in the water for a short period of time to see if a very delicate sea horse will survive just doesn't make since. Oh well I guess he'll be happier in his 2.5 gallon home now?

fish but jeez thats kind of cruel to just check the tank with him then flush him for friggen sea horses.....i think just for that you should get the damsel it's own little tank larger than a 2.5 gallon.

Ok, I clearly mentioned the Damsel would go back to a LFS after I saw if things were ok (but they wont take a fish with ich). I Had no intention of Flushing it initially. The Tank is for Tank raised seahorses which are a LOT easier than the wild caught ones. A friend of mine has had two tanks of these running for the last two years and has been working very closely with me on the tank set up and everything. He suggested placing a fish in first to check....as tank raised seahorses are expensive in my neck of the woods.
When I saw the ich I was going to flush him in my anger at myself.....and at the fish. But I changed my mind. Do not chastise me for something I didn't do and had no intention to do initially.
I have seen 2 1/2 gallon nano's with a Damsel in it before. I plan on changing it to a bigger tank but I needed something quick for a short fix, and that I could fill up with water out of 140 gallon so the water would be cycled without taking to much from my 140. I would have put him in my quarantine but that would have meant certain death. My Neon Velvet Damsel is in there. He is about 5 inches in size and terrorrizes everything it sees. Ity is in Timeout for being bad.
So as you can see I did everything I could within my means to keep the fish alive........2 1/2 gallon nano will have to do till my QT opens up or I get another tank and cvycle it.

Thank goodness you had a change of heart! Too bad we cant flush people down the toilet as they P**s us off!!! J/K. Well, Take care of the itch and see if that LFS or another LFS will give it a good home. You were lucky to even catch that DAMSel.

the thing with *****(i work at one) is that check out the fish in all the sections. chances are if one fish has ick the whole system has ick in it. not to say it's the specific ***** you bought it at's fault, especially when the corporate will not supply qt tanks before dumping them into the tanks. also not to mention that we got huge systems sharing the same water so if one tank has sick fish in it the whole thing has that fungus, disease, or parasite running through it.
