Liverock, photoperiod, running carbon in your filters, phosphate reactor.
Photoperiod and carbon are the cheapest.

IMO way to much light. How do you get 650 watts of de halides.
And i agree with andretti.
Cut the photoperiod.and stop the water changes.let it finish its cycle. Its prob gonna get worse before it gets better. And get some more live rock.and a better protien skimmer.Im pretty sure there is no quick fix for this.
When i first started my 210 I started my 750 w HQI DE on like 10 hours a day.started getting red slime, and i cut my lights down little by little and it went away.Total light time on my tank now is like 6 hours.I also have 4x65 watts pc that come on before halides and stay on after halides go off.

I would disagree with the skimmer being worthless. I have that exact same skimmer. With proper maintance and good hand on the air regulator. They run great. But they do have the common sense factor to deal with. You need to get the feel of them. They aren't idoit proof. However they are just fine if you watch them. It's easy to tell if it's working at full potential. That would not be a problem.
Watch the tube. You can see when you have full pull of water. If you see a big bubble in the tube. Then you aren't getting the full flow. Tighten the air regulator down till it passes. Then adjust till you see the full amount of air bubbles in the reactor tube. Makes all the difference in the world.
With some experience, and with this setting, and proper care. They do great. To throw it out is foolish and waste of more money for you.

You are right it is a decient skimmer. When I had 120 it worked pretty good.but not good enough.IMO I wouldnt recommend it on any thing over a 75.
But with the situation at hand I suggested to get a better skimmer

I dont know what is wrong with your tank but I can tell you what fixed mine. I was having a lot of the same problems, I tried what everyone said to try (feed less, less light , more water changes, phos gaurd and better protien skimmers) and nothing worked then I bought 12 cherry stone clams (cleaner clams) at the super market and it fixed my problems. they cost me 4.00 for all of them. They are filter feeders and will eat the stuff that is messing up your tank. You may want to try them they are a lot cheaper and easier. try letting nature fix the problems. good luck

I really think i need to do water chages. I don't see how not removing the trates and trites is going benifit the quality of the water.
So how much water and how often? It's a 110gal

10% minimum once a week, water changes not only take out the bad (nitrates etc) but replenish your trace minerals and elements.

I was having problem like this and found that didn't help it any by changing so much water it keep going thru a cycle let it ride and find the problem I was told. Now I change 10-15 gallons a week in a 150 w/gallon sump with a lot of rock over 200pounds and if I see a piece that I think is cool I'll add more.
