It isn't necessary to hypo a fish that doesn't have ich, just keep observing him in your qt. If you are worried that there may be ich present then leave him in the qt a little longer to see if you can see any spots.

I agree with mazdaman on that one. I don't ever recommend putting tangs, angels, butterflies, puffers, gobies, or eels in copper-treated water.
With that said, if the fish has ich, you will see it within 4 to 6 weeks in the quarantine. Just observe closely.

nice, i will def qt him for at least 6 weeks then.....
my kole tang got ich after 4 weeks, this is why i'm a little worried, but i guess it should be visible within 6 weeks.......
thanx for the help guys
so, just to make sure, i'll wait like 7 weeks, and if no ich present i can then add him?

I agree with puffers, gobies, and eels, or any scaless fish, but tangs, angels and butterflies? I always kept them (and every fish except the ones mentioned) in coppered tanks at the warehouse I worked at. A lot of the larger more expensive fish, like show size Nasos would be in there for at least a month. Some LFS owners would even ask me to test the water in front of them to make sure the level was high enough. The copper level being below .15mg in the tang tanks was punishable by written reprimand.

Dave, I was not knocking your experience or judgment. I know you have been in this hobby a long time and have plenty of great experience to share.
I just know that when I compare my results, the tangs, angels, butterflies that I kept in my own tanks and customers' tanks always did much better with hyposalinity than copper.

4 weeks is ample time to have noticed a parasitic outbreak. If the fish appears healthy and is eating well, go ahead and add it to the display. Given your concern, have you quarantined all of your fish in the same manner?

I agree. If you have closely monitored for 4 weeks and he is eating well and not showing signs of parasites, he is fine to add to the display.
