i can't believe it

BEFORE YOU PASS READ IT, I KNOW IT IS LONG, BUT:
there seems to be alot of cursing going on lately, and i can't believe my eyes, we have kids here, and until last night, i thought a lot of responsible adults, i feel these kids(who have offered alot to this board too) have been acting much more responsible than the adults(or so they claim that they are mature adults), spouting off about manhoods, and putting things where they don't belong, and sweearing up and down, some of which claim to have years and years of experience, but think others are jerks, for giving good advice, which if they were half as experienced as they cliam, should not only agree, but understand thta this is advice given based on either experience and or research(and we would welcome their advice too, right wrong or otherwise, it would still be welcome as opinion and or advice), i think this board was not put here to show each other up, but to help one another, and i feel if you can't keep it under control you should put a lid on it all together, i am by no means offended by this(in fact, i can hold my own with the best of them and in 3 languages, so if i want to spout, i can even do it with tact, so as not to offend others), but i feel that there is a place for this, and this is not it, there are may sites on the web, where you can go and talk as dirty as you like, but they are adult sites, this is an info and discussion site, NOT one of those, and i find it humiliating that others are coming here, acting like adults, then being showed up by a bunch of well mannered teen agers, i think it is disguting and really commend:
joe5_15, carrie 1429, stupid naso, jthe tang, and b-havv88(sp), and i know there are many others who are under 18 and exhibit exemplary behavior,
for their excellent behavior and manners, now i am not condemming all the adults, i jsut wish all the adults could be as well mannered
as i said i am not offended by such language, but i am very dissapointed in the fact that we cannot set examples, as we should
PLEASE sharks, do not kill this post, it is something that should be said after last night,and i would like to read any and all flack that i wouLD get for posting it, it would only enforce my opinion, AND I AM HOPING that it would actually change my opinion at the same time, so anyone else who agrees, feel welcome speak out too

I agree wholeheartedly! I have been gone out of town for 3 days and was shocked by the change in the bb when I returned. This board has been a lifesaver for my reef and a source of infinate knowledge. Now, I am not sure of where we are going. I come here for the advice and infoand to help others, not to slam others and read all of the foul language. I hope the point is taken by those involved. Thanks again SWF for a great BB!!

I definately agree with you. Although I wasn't here last night, I can imagine what happened. I've seen some "pretty quick to get roudy" people in here and it's no place I wanna be. I come here for information and help.

Yeah that was crazy. I wasnt around last night either, but when i got upthis morn, i was reading last nights posts, and wow did some tempers flare or what/????I personally love this message board. I would reather post replys all day than go to school or work, and its kinda sad to see something like that happen to such a good, public, informative board!

I've been participating on this BB for almost 2 years, and inevitably this topic continues to surface from time to time. Due to the "open" nature of the internet and BB's in general - unforunately we must address this issue now and then. Looks like it's now again
Without getting into a discussion regarding one's rights of free expression, let's just say this. You still have a right to express your opinion here - that's what it's all about. A healthy constructive debate is never unwelcome, and for the most part is encouraged. We all have a great opportunity here - to say what's on our minds, to agree or disagree with others, and to offer assistance to another member or members, through our own personal experiences, and hopefully we can learn more about this great hobby.
But ....
The use of profanity, foul language, name calling, deliberate mud slinging and "flaming" is NOT allowed.
I would say the moderators have been fairly lenient in the past, and will continue to be tolerant to mild infractions - but occasionally if a member continues to express themself using inappropriate words or phases - that member ultimately will be banned. Sometimes they are given a warning - other times it's immediate.
Hate to see that happen - but it does.
So folks - use some common sense, feel free to post away - express yourself - enter into a productive debate if you feel strongly about a subject. Just refrain from using words and phrases that we all know are inappropriate for mixed company.

i agree, old yeller, i am skimmerless, and flaming, is not really necessary for people giving opinions(normally, some are rediculous and are obviously not so), but my point here was geared toward the name callingand profanity and outright insults that went on last night, most has been eliminated, i just felt that was completely uncalled for and completely unnecessary, especially coming from some people who claim to be experienced and adults, slamming others vulgarly for offering GOOD ADVICE(not questionable opinions), and accidentally responding to the wrong post(typed something here, that should have been in another thread)

Welcome to the World Wide Web!!!! with the thousands and millions of people with access to the web they out number the few moderators here at SWF.com. it is impossible to filter out all the curse words... Politically correct Internet netiquette is not to use profanity........
If it is used to give readers an expression of ones feelings its OK by me. but if it just randomly said and unecessary of course its profane.
The Reality Check is profanity and even violence is everywhere in cartoons, movies, music, schools and the web. Even children hear, write, and say profanities. Ask any child..........

yes i agree w/ fshhub and kudos to you for posting this. i go to sleep, then to work, and miss all this, I am upset for not being here, lol. i have been a member for about two months and if it werent for these message boards, i would be in a world of poop. the info. i have received from this board is priceless. it makes me feel good to give back to a "newer newbie" than myself on what i have learned thus far. "you're never to old or experienced to learn something new". the name calling and rudeness are unnecessary and hopefully will not deter anyone away.

fshhub, thanks for the compliment, though one thing.... I'm 18, it's been six months even, just want to ease things up a little here.
I agree with you, though sometimes things got carried away and I agree that people need to hold back a little (Anger Management 101, might be helpful ). Another thing, as innocent as we want to think the kids are, do not underestimate them, they know a lot more than you think they do . Let's just hope we don't add their vocabularies .

i was referring more to the extreme vulgarity and outright attacks that some of us fotunately have missed, adn stupid naso sorry, i was just going by the fact of something you had said in another post, you however, are 18, and still more commendable than what i had read last night you and are setting a good example for the others, i realize not all teens and all adults fall into the same category, but it is still our job, in society and everywhere to if not set eamples, at least not set the wrong one, jsut as i said, there is a place and an OCCASSIONAL damn or sh** or h**l is nothing compared to what was said the other night, it was more like %$%#%$& *^%&^%HT *&^$*YT youson&$^$* (^*(&(*$* yo9ur m(**^*_KLNKH(*^*(if you get the drift), in fact, i would have even preferred it read like i put it, they used the exact words, (and it was all over somethign that did not even pertain to them, it would have been nice for you to been able to read it, but it is better that it is gone, i guess), and the other one was an assault from someone who was not even involved, as i said, i do not get offended, and can top 98% of the other men and women and children out there but i do feel this is not aplace for something like that, there are visitors and new memebers everyday and to see behavior like that is going to send some of them to other sites, i do agree even that this is the internet, i just had to vent and say take that behavior elsewhere (it was too excessive), then come back and participate constructively, we could use that

Yea it seems like there are a few (1 in particular I can think of) on the board recently whose fingers are tripping over there egos with hopes of becoming most popular.
An arrogant post or reply will almost always draw an attack. There are many experienced and knowledgable people on this board and when someone comes along thinking they are better then everyone they are just asking for trouble.
I have noticed that certain people on this board have special knowledge in specific areas.
For example a person that knows a great deal of information on disease may not know as much about keeping corals and vise versa and they dont pretend too.
When a know it all comes along and thinks they know the answer to everything people get sick of it and there is bound to be an attack.
Most of us learned from our school days (some the hard way <img src="graemlins//dead.gif" border="0" alt="[dead]" /> ) that no one likes a know it all.
