You would think with all these aquarium people someone could recommend a timer for your lights. Anything besides Ice Cap that is durable is good to me.

Thats exactly what i have and recommend. I don't see why or how a timer could get any fancier. All a timer does is turn on and off a light. You want it to feed your fish, test your water, and clean your algae too?

the biggest problem with lighting times is that they are generaly made for lamps ie. two prongs while any thing around water really needs to be grounded [the third prong] so you should make sure that your timer is a heavey duty out door type with a ground. for a few $$ more

I agree with Drewster. I have two simple times from Wal-Mart. They are great.....

Yes, and the other consideration is when have a few lights going and you want them all to come on / off at different times! LOL
