They say that the hot water thing is sometimes not safe due to bacteria. Cold water is recommended. Even on the turkey it recommends it.
That was one big hunk of meat. What did you do with it?
Nice of your dad to do that, but tell him next time to come over and fix it and you will fix something for him. :)

OK, I'm back! I did what Aaron suggested...kinda. I cooked it all day at 315F, til the internal temp was 175. Close to being done I put 2 jars of BBQ sauce in it. Tasted like a big pork chop! Good, but I'm not a big pork eater. But it was good for pork.

Having just found this thread I'm late...but last weekend I slow smoked a pork shoulder. Let it sit overnight in fresh green chilis(my special budweiser maranade)....smoked it for 4-5 hours in a wrap of foil with green chilis and spices. Took it out of the wrap and finished cooking it for another hour or so basting with bbq sauce every 15-20 minutes...when done it had a spicy chili/bbq flavor and just fell off the bone. Pulled pork New Mexico style....hot and spicy!!!!!MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm:yes:

I am always late. I pride myself on being the ultimate carnivore, but I haven't done much with pork. I was strolling down the isle at Cost-co and there was this perfect hunk of pig laying there. Dang that baby baked up nice. I'm just finishing with the leftovers.

Lemons, limes, onions, garlic, marinate overnight, then in the oven at 300, covered with foil to slow cook.
Anybody going on a "healthy diet" come New Year? I'm thinking about it. :scared: I obviously need a good receipe book to help me alone. Any health food gurus here?

how did it turn out? If you ever have to try this again just follow you beef recipe but do not use the coke. Beef is a different type of meat. For pork you can use everything else and slow cook it on high for at least 4 to 6 hours. When the meat falls off the bone your done. The bone is good becasue that will heat and cook the inside of the meat. Put some circle cut onions on the bottom of slow cooker and place roast on top of them.
