You have nothing in the tank? It isn't cycling unless an ammonia source is added. 1.024 isn't terribly low. You will need a power head and a refractometer. Have you looked into buying live rock yet?
forddna, you have my apologies. There was nothing in this tank and the salt crystals could have been added.
No worries. I didn't say it to prove you wrong - I wanted to clear that up in case a newbie read it and found it contradictory to what he/she has read.

No the LS just has bacteria in it to help boost the speed of the cycle not sure if it actually speeds it up or not but, like what was posted earlier you need an ammonia source first to start the cycle.

If you start the cycle without live rock, when you add the live rock, it's going to cycle again.
I would just get your system going - get a powerhead, get your salinity right, get your temperature right. Then add some live rock and put a couple flakes of food in the tank to start your cycle.
That's what I did, and everything has gone great.
Yes, an aquapod is glass.

The salinity is holding I ran it 15 times and they all turned out in the safe range.
Im planning on getting a Koralias 1 at the LFS tommorow since today is my brothers first communion and Im serving.
Pretty busy.

I am surprised no one pointed this out. Your salinity is not holding and/or raising because every time you go to raise it, you are removing a gallon or two of water! Thus, when you add that half a cup back in, you are only replacing what you just took out with the gallon or two gallons. You are not adding any new salt. If you did not remove any gallons when you did it, the salt would go up rather quickly.

Fair warning - equipment is more pricey at LFS than online. Check online sources! Check the classifieds on here, too.
If you're going to keep corals, aim for 30x turnover. That means, 24 gallon tank times 30 = the total GPH from your powerheads and the filter return on your aquapod. That's 720gph, btw. Your aquapod pump pushes up to 290gph. So you need to purchase powerheads to make up the difference - 720-290 = 430.
The Koralia 1 is 400gph. The Koralia Nano is 240gph. Doing my homework says it's better to have 2 powerheads than 1. I'd go for the two Nanos or similar.

I took it that he meant he was removing one gallon of water adding salt to the gallon and putting it back in the tank
OP will have to chime in to clarify. Your Idea does sound like that may be the case though.
