I did it anyways.

Normally I wouldnt do something that could risk the health and well being of anything in my tank. I have had a misbar false perc. for almost 2 years, adn I have always wanted a second clown for it to mate with. I bought a smaller male false perc (not a misbar) and added it to my tank. Despite advice not to and HORROR stories of adding a second clown to a tank where one clown has established its territory, I did it anyways. I didnt even move the aquascape around or isolate the two. Maybe I shouldnt have done it.
Just kidding. They paired IMMEDIATELY. They even spent the first night (and every since) in the same host (which my misbar has been hosting since it moved in). They are always together now. There has been NO nipping, but definitely some hierarchal behavior displayed. Not in an aggressive form, just displaying sides and fins to one another. I couldnt be more pleased. Oh, I didnt mention, this is in a 24g tank. Can you believe it?!
Question: How long will it take for the misbar to change ---? I cant find my book on clowns. I think my ex stole it. ha.
Nonetheless, I just wanted to brag a little. Also, I must say that I dont condone doing what I did. The situation may have gone drastically different.
I'll Post pics a little later.

A singlely kept clown of two years old is IMO, nearly certain to have already turned female long ago.
What you have done is often the recomended way with an established Female, though it often is successfull most of the time, I will agree not always.

Unless its a maroon, you can usually pair up clowns. I had a perc for a long while and decided to get him a black and white mate. I got a small one thinking it was still male, and all worked out.

Really? I did not know that. I thought they stayed as male until they were introduced to another clown, at which point the larger turned. Interesting. Well, great. Thanks for the insight.

Yeah, I am aware of the maroon's hostility. Congrats on the black and white paired with the normal perc. Ever get any offspring? I have always been told and read (though never in any serious depth) that clowns are very hostile toward eachother over terrritory and such. It has always been said to me to introduce any clowns at the same time and last, to any tank, let alone a nano. I just always abided by that. Hm. Thanks for postin.

i have a tomato clown 3-4 inches and the lfs i went to said that i could add a clarkii to my 150 and they would be ok. they were very wrong. had to move the clarkii to my small tank with a false perc. the clarkii is about 3-4 inches and the false is about 1-2 inches the false perc stayed at the top of the tank for about 3 days but they seem to be getting along now.

How ;ong have they been together? Sometimes it takes awhile before aggrestion starts. If the clarkii is new, and was added after the perc, he may still be acclaimating and problems will come later. You do have a large tank, so who knows. I tried adding a 2nd maroon to my 150 and the one I had already nearly killed the new comer.

I added a false perc to an existing false perc. They have been together now for almost a week. Still seem to be getting along GREAT. They host the same coral, stay around eachother almost all the time, and seemingly enjoy eachother's company. My tank is only 24 g. LOTS of LR and space to hide.
