can you get a living colony of copepods in your system? and can you put more then 1 mandarin in your tank?

Yes you can get pods living in your system but it takes a lot to support 1 Mandarin. Depending on the size and maturity of your system you could support 2 but I would be careful about that. I have 1 in a 90gal that has been up and running for close to a year. I also have a fuge that is support the tank. I want to put a Scooter in the tank but I worry about the competition between the 2.

well we just recently got a 95 gal with 20 gal sump, no fuge. could i possibly start a colony of pods in the sump and have them sucked to the main tank?

I bet they can, probably not enough to sustain a mandarin. That is probably why they have the colony's for sale. Not sure though

Not sure what you mean when you say "grow from liver rock". They will live in live rock and yes a mature system can sustain itself if the predation is limited. It is a good idea though to have a source outside of the DT so that the population can recover. Hope that helps.

No, thats where most of us get them in the first place. Other than what critters we get that are in our Live Rock we buy.

so do copepod grow from live rocks ?
They dont grow frim live rock. They come in on/in the rocks and then use them for shelter from predators and breed. When you add pods to your tank, try to put them where a fish cant get to the right away so some may have a chance to find a hiding spot and breed. Mandarins need a large tank (75g) or a smaller tank with a refugium or youll just have to keep supplying them with the bottles every few weeks.

sorry to say, Flower sint lying burrito. Your madarin may live longer than this weekend, but unless you can get large enough source of food in your tank, (judging from the picture of it) itl prabably die pretty soon. If you cant get food or get it to a LFS, i guess thats that, but if you can i would bring your fish back, or go buy a bunch of pods. ( i know you've herd thiss many times but its the truth)

I never said it will die over the weekend...and stuff must of said that. LOL I said it needs a mature refugium to have enough pods to be healthy. Then I explained the starvation process. A mandarin can live a while before they starve, with a tiny amount of pods it will take it longer, but death and illness awaits it.
