i havnt been on in a while but i see the website did away with the for sale/trade forum and made a auction site. i really liked those forums and kinda wished they didnt get rid of them. i went and regestered at the auction site and there wasnt 1 item to bid on???? i thought that was kinda funny because on this actual website there was so many items to buy/trade. i really enjoyed looking through that forum trying to find good buys. anyway just wanted to vent a little and give my opinion, mabye they will bring them back to the website.

I was the same way. Gone for a while and came back.
I agree the auction thing sucks.
I do understand the reasoning behind it - but thats par for the course.

The auctions generate income for SWF.com. They didn't make money off the clasified ads. Gotta pay the bills somehow. I wont use Paypal so auctions are out for me anyway.

Just a suggestion as it doesn't matter to me either way. Couldn't SWF.com make a classified forum and before your post is submitted you have to pay a small fee through paypal in order for it to be posted. All contacting would have to be done through email. of course to the seller. The posts then could all have a two week limit and would automatically be deleted at that time. If you wanted to list again you would again pay the fee. Save on bandwidth and still make money.

As stated above - they aren't making money from the auctions. Nobody is using them.
They pay the bills by everything they sell. You can browse it by the bar down the left side of the page.

Not every idea ends up working out.
If it was my board I'd do a lot of things different but it isn't so....

agreed, but never the less, they are a business, and they were loosing money from the classifieds section of the site. So - yeah, of course they had to shut it down. The auctions have a very, very low rate, and for the most part seems pretty sturdy so far. Though, no one uses it because it does cost.
At least they didn't completely take away the ability to sell off of this site.
Yah know?

heres an idea- bring back the selling and trading forums, and charge us a fee to use them. like the rest of the forum is free as always, but you pay whatever a month or year to gain access to the selling forums. i would pay to have them back. but i WILL NOT use that auction site.

I seriously doubt they are generating ANY money from that section of the site. In fact they're probably loosing $$. I'd go as far to say, I doubt with the usage it is getting, that they'll keep it open much longer.
As far as charging for classifieds.
Would you really pay to use a classifieds section? Seriously? When there are tons of other free sites with classifieds sections.
For me they'd have to provide some sort of service for me to justify spending money to post on their site. And I just don't see them making any $$ doing that. So why should they?

Even if it only cost you a dollar? This sight gives you a direct line to a specific demograph to sell to.
Alix, don't worry I ignore you too, for the most part......
