So are your kids out because the temp is below zero? I know when I was in MO we went to school when it was below zero. We only got snow days.

ROFLMAO !!! You think you got problems ? Take a look at Oswego, NY. They are expecting to get up to 100 inches by THIS Sunday !!! They are still digging out and schools have been closed since Monday. They got 76 inches total snowfall in 4 DAYS already !! Buffalo already used up all their snow days back in October 2006 (?) due to a freak snowstorm that shut down the city & schools for a whole week !! And you're worrying about kids not getting back to school .... They'll have make-up school days come June and end for the summer later than you usually are. Happens all the time in NY State.

I would love to move to Maine or Alaska
Alaska rocks! That's where I grew up, I just moved away for college a year and a half ago. I can't believe they are letting you off for a "cold day". Snow days are understandable because people literally can't drive on the roads but a cold day is ridiculous. Bundle them up and send them off. We still had to go out for recess until it was 10 below. I think not having recess is fine, but there is no reason to not have schoo.

So why didn't you have to go if it was 12 below? I don't live in Ohio but I bet they closed the schools because zero degree temperatures are not normal there and either the heating systems in the school can't keep up or they are concerned with kids being out at bus stops in sub freezing temps and not properly prepared for it. That's why they have snow days.
The idiot govenor here in Ga closed the schools because he thought gas was going to be in short supply after Katrina hit.

Zero degree temps are normal (but not sub zero). Their reasoning is the kids will get frostbite standing at the bus stop or walking to school.

I've heard "Mom, I'm hungry" about 10 million times and "he hit me, well she started it!" about 800 billion times

We now have another wind chill advisory for tonight. It looks like we may have another "snow" day tomorrow. Good grief. Let's bundle 'em up and send 'em on!
