I tested my perameters a litte while ago and everything was great. PH 8.4, ammoina 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm,and nitrate 0ppm. The thing is that I finnished the cycle a litte bit ago and didn't do a water change(going to buy salt soon) can anyone explain this?

what part dont you get? Are you asking why you show no signs of ammonia , nitrites and nitrates? Ammonia if formed, bacteria breaks down the ammonia till there is none. THAT bacteria produces NITRITES. Another bacteria forms and eats the NITRITES till there is none and THAT bacteria produces NITRATES. IF everything is perfect and there is nothing else breaking down in the tank or food or fish producing a lot of waste, you will show NO nitrates...and you didnt even do a water change.....

The thing that i'm not sure of is the fact that there's no nitrate. Because from what I understand there should be a lage amount of nitrate in the water.

are you feeding your tank even though you don't have any fish in it? may be a reason you don't have nitrates as well.

Sorry for not being clear the question is, after the ammonia is turned to nitrate dose it change to something different or just build up?

what renogaw said with a little added. with a NEW dsb or a tank without one you will need to do water changed to get rid of the nitrates in the tank.

Agree with the above two posters. If you properly cycled the tank you should have Nitrate.
Unless you have a very efficient deep sand bed, lots of very porous live rock, or a lot of macro algae sucking it up.
You have a right to be confused... "Matter cannot be created or destroyed". The by-product of Nitrite had to go somewhere.
