I drank the cool aid and will be trying aqua vitro salinity

I found a store within reasonable distance that carries it. The best part is that they are a part of my reef club's salt buy and I think I am getting it at a fair price.

Curious as well if anyone in your club has had issues with how it mixes......I'm curious to try it, but have been reading lately about brown sludge......First I've actually heard of that issue though.....

The people that are using it seem to love it.
Here is a question how do you mix your salt? Do you dump it in or slowly add it over period of several hours? I have heard that dumping it in to the mixing container can cause chemical reactions. This causes inconsistencies in the salt mix.

Slowly.....But as I said the biggest issue I've heard is the silt it leaves....Some will argue all salts do this, but who knows.....

My RC left silt and that was after mixing for over 24 hours. I picked up the salt on Saturday and a scroll coral. I did not realize how big the buckets were. They were 65.5 lbs. I plan on mixing some water for the water change tomorrow night. I will see how it goes.

I have been using Salinity for a year now and I won't go back to anything else. I mix mine in a 20 gallon rubbermaid tub. The only down fall I see is sometimes my tank gets cloudy. Also, if I mix it one one day and then add it the next day I get even more cloudiness. Regardless, the tank looks normal a few hours later. All of my tank inhabitants seem to thrive and I see incredible growth.

Salinity is hard to come by depending where you live.....I just don't get that aspect of it though.....I know not just anyone can sell the Salinity, but I don't get their logic on how it's managed per say.......ESV has been around.........

A unique solution to many of the problems associated with all dry synthetic seawater blends.
Problem:

All dry blends may not be homogenous resulting in considerable chemical variations not only from batch to batch but also from within the same container. Aggravating this further, humidity contamination during storage can result in localized precipitation reactions.
b>Solution:B-Ionic Seawater System avoids these problems by providing the two dominant salts in our formulation in separate containers. All other major, minor, and trace elements are pre-dissolved in a highly concentrated two component liquid system. These dry and liquid components can easily be measured for any size batch of synthetic seawater.
Problem:

It is now recognized that most reagent grade salts can contain contaminants (trace metals, etc.) at levels which may inhibit the growth of some algae species from low nutrient environments (oligotrophic) such as coral reefs.
Solution:

B-Ionic Seawater System addresses this issue by providing ultra-low heavy metal Sodium Chloride (max. allowable less than half max. allowable for reagent grade sodium chloride) and USP grade Magnesium Sulfate as the dry components of the system. In addition, all other chemicals pre-dissolved in our liquid components are subject to our three phase purification process resulting in significant lowering of contaminants, including phosphate.
Problem:

Many all dry blends take excessive time to completely dissolve. Addition of newly mixed batches to the aquarium can cause irritation to inhabitants upon exposure to non-dissolved salt micro-particles.
Solution:

B-Ionic Seawater System avoids this problem by providing all of the slower dissolving ingredients in a pre-dissolved solution form. Batches can be used within 10 minutes of preparation with no adverse effects providing initial RO and/or DI water contains sufficient dissolved oxygen.
B-IONIC SEAWATER PARAMETERS (@ 34 ppt salinity):

450 ppm Calcium • 3.25 meq/L Alkalinity • 1400 ppm Magnesium

I use Salinity and love it. I actually use less salt and go longer in between water changes. As Deton8it pointed out, the cloudiness is to be expected. I typically make a 44 gallon tub of RE/DI and add the salt and a pump. I do the water change within 24-48 hours later. The corals all love it and really open up.
I used to do a 2 gallon water change every morning before noon, the corals responded beautifully but somewhere down the line..... I believe it was due to winter, and I keep my tub in the garage, and got away from it.
I believe you would really like the results after a few water changes Krista.

Here ya go Gem........ I read the first link and thought you might like it. There are a few links on the site you might want to check out.
Also, here is a link regarding the Salinity under the first link. Have a good read and keep us informed. :)

EDITED: A fellow reefer here locally uses Brightwells salt mix and he has been trying to get me to try it. I might try it once my salinity runs out. It's a little cheaper than the Salinity so we will see. He swears by this stuff.

I just got a bucket of salinity and did a 30% wc on my 33 gal and noticed that after mixing it 24 hours I thought silver flakes came off my cheap heater but when I wiped it up with a paper towel it was undesolved salt and a bunch of black/gray crap came with it.
I've used three buckets on my little tank and must say the stuff doesn't mix very well at all Also if you don't go slow enough it will be cloudy no matter what. It's really hard to say if my corals "like" it better than any other salt. The readings on the mix is a plus.
Esv is the best salt and cleanest salt I have ever come across. It just takes more steps to mix but can be used within minutes

The bucket is so heavy... I have been using it for about a year and like it a lot. But that darn bucket is a bit heavy. I have to carry mine down to my basement and the stairs make it a bit tough.
I have never had cloudiness when doing a WC, but my mixing container has to be wiped down with vinegar after to remove the white residue.

I'll try to post pics of my mixing process. I am going to mix the salt very slowly and see how it goes. I can say that H2Ocean mixed very clean.

I did the first water change last night. The water was cloudy when I was mixing it and had a strong odor. This cleared up quickly. I added the salt very slowly (like 1/2 cup every few hours) and the water cleared up quickly. Parameters were pretty good. I didn't write down the numbers but I remember calcium was high. I think this is a good thing since I am starting to get into SPS. I am supposed to be getting about 20 mini colonies in a week or so from a group coral buy.
