I feel like a moron asking this but

how do i empty the collection cup on my skimmer? do i turn it off? turn the adjustment knob down all the way? :notsure: i just got it running and its still in the break in period but i was wondering because if i unscrew the collection cup its gonna pour over the top :thinking: oh btw its a coralife super skimmer 125. please forgive my ignorance for i know not what to do

No worries, unplug the unit and unscrew the collection cup. Rinse it out and then replace it. Screw it back on and plug in the unit. Do you have a drain hose on it? I have one on mine draining into a 1 gal. milk jug. I just clean the skimmer cup every month or so. HTH. Barry

. oh my gosh, just thinking about sucking the contents out of a skimmer with a straw, makes my stomach churn....

I think I prefer Barry's idea, and if you really need more protein in your diet Squidd, I think I got some easier solutions

thanks guys it just so happens i have some air hose i can use to suck it out with lol. really thanks i wasnt sure if it was cool to kill the power. hey hot i dont have a drain hose on it was thinking about it though i got it H.O.B. right now but im thinking of trying to put it my wet/dry cause the wifey dosent like the way it looks on the tank. now if i could just get rid of those pesky micro bubbles. but on a side note the stuff in the collection cup right now is wicked nasty its amazing whats in your water that you cant see. thanks again though guys.and im open to anymore ideas or suggestions you might have.

Hey i tried sucking out with a straw its kinda thick though, but you know what it kinda taste like a Sam Adams i.e. Rancid.

I'd just shut it down and empty....that way you don't really mess with your adjustment on the skimmer......but would also be easy to dial it down and empty and then readjust....

Barry, do you not find collection dimishing as the cup gets dirty? I've got a drain hose on mine but I was afraid of letting the cup get too dirty.

Don't mean to butt in, but yes collection would slow some due to the resistance in the neck of the skimmer leading to the collection cup.

Yes, it will affect it I am sure. I don't have a problem with mine draining as I have a SS220 and it constantly pulls crud. If the tube (upper tube where it overflows) is caked then it is hard to see where the bubbles are so I try to keep mine clean on a regular basis just to see where the bubbles level is. HTH

Just wondering... both of the skimmers I've run slowed down considerably once they got dirty. I really didn't think the overflow was practical until I read your post...

I have mine draining into a 2liter bottle..empty it once every 2-3 weeks...then clean the cup and drain line...just a part of routine maintence
