You JUST posted a message on the reef board about not understanding how to do water changes (about 5 mintues ago), and now you want ot add MOTE to your tank??
Honestly, as I said above, I would not add anything, seriously, NOTHING until you get your water a little better....for a period of at least a month.
Inverts like snails and crabs are very sensitive to certain changes (like salinity). But again, it is your tank, your money...if you want to risk killing things, that is your choice.

Supplementing their food with garlic boosts their natural immunity against disease and infection.

Don't ever use tap water when topping off or performing water changes. If you don't have an RO/DI unit, than I would at least use purified or distilled bottled water. This will help reduce the possibility of being overrun with algae in your tank.

How did you cycle your tank, and when did you start adding things to your tank? How often do you test the water parameters?
Also, you asked if there are any opinions other than RO/DI water and a refugium...trust me, if you break down and get those two things, your tank will progress better with less problems, and your wallet will also thank you in the long run becuase even though the initial costs are higher, you will not have to waste alot of money through maintenance, treatment, or restocking of fish and corals!

I think the point folks are trying to get across you you is that it doesnt seem you're listening to us. if you dont want to, thats ok, but don't expect answers either. we're here to help each other, but we can only help you as much as you're willing to help yourself.
MY recommendation stands: DO NOT buy anything else live until you have read a good starter book like the one I suggested in one of your first posts.
Good luck!

dumb question but what does RO stand for? ive been trying to learn all the terms everyone is using and still havent figured out what "RO" stands for, so whats an RO/DI Filter? i know to run tap water through so you can turn it into the water you need to refill your tank kinda like distilled water....

Richfish,
Do NOT use spring water for your tank! They add minerals to spring water, don't filter much out, etc, and they do this just for it to taste good for us. If you use bottled water, get either distilled or purified.

RO= reverse osmosis
DI= deionized
Look on the bottles of purified water and see how they are purified. Arctic Mist, for example, uses reverse osmosis and steam distillation. This removes trace elements and other impurites from the water so they never enter the tank. Check into RO/DI units and you will get a better feel for what they do and how they do it.

well thanx for all the info.......:) :) ........ever since i removed the dead gobie that i finally found decayed in my tank my ammonia dropped to zero along with my nitrites and my nitrates went down a little bit.......dont worry thow this little change isnt gunna give me a big head and make me go out and buy something......trust me i wont be buying another living thing for a pretty long time.......i was also wondering if i could get a powerhead to put more flow in the tank?

For a 55 you need at least 3-4 powerheads. If you buy RIO, prepare to buy more in 3-4 weeks when those pieces of crap break down on you. :yes: I would get 4 Maxi-jet 900s or maybe 2-3 maxi-jet 1200s.
