I have been searching the detroit area for some time now trying to find a toadstool leather that i liked that wasnt to big. Everyone i had been seeing was way too big for my tank. Then i found this guy. ONLY $25!! I was geeked when i saw it. Plus, it came with a smaller one (that i dont think the LFS saw) on the rock. so i actually got two for that price. Anyway, here it is! I have it up pretty high in the tank, and it is in some strong current. not blowin on ar at it, but across it from a powerhead on the other side of the tank. It sways in current a little, and the polyps move too once in a while. Does the placement sound OK to you guys? I did some searching and found they like moderate lighting and moderate current so this is where i put him. My other alternative is on the bottom with light current. This pick is the day after it was acclimiated so I am pleased that it is open already!

since I am at it, here is another one, this pocillopora has grown incredibly fast in my tank. It has grown about 4 new arms since i got it and doubled in size in just under six months. It is halfway up in my tank in light/moderate current. I actually am growing out a frag that broke off when i first got it. Paid 5 bucks for this guy because it was so small that the LFS was going to throw it on the bottom of the tank and forget about it. It is one of my favorites for sure. The only thing is though that i notice that my pocillopora looks nothing like some of the ones seen on this board. Do i have a correct ID?

Hey thanks a lot!! I am surprised about the quality too. The camera is a Ricoh RDC-5000 that came out when digi cams were just getting started. it was the first digital camera that was 2.3 megapixels! I am in the market for a new cam though. But thanks for the comlpliment! I did enter it by the way, that along with a fox coral macro.

Timmy - First Welcome to the board
Second - Shame on you. Do research before you purchase :)
Toadstool, Leather - Sarcophyton species
Also known as: Mushroom Sarcophyton Leather, Elegant Leather Coral, Green Crown Leather, Mushroom Coral, Mushroom Leather Coral, Toadstool Leather Coral
The Toadstool, Leather has a brown, tan color. It likes to eat filter feeding invert food, brine shrimp, micro-plankton a few times per week, when open. The Sarcophyton species is generally peaceful toward other tankmates. Many consider the Sarcophyton species a low-maintenance specimen. Has moderate lighting needs.
The Mushroom Sarcophyton Leather, Elegant Leather Coral, Green Crown Leather, Mushroom Coral, Mushroom Leather Coral, Toadstool Leather Coral requires moderate water flow. Symbiotic algae zooxanthellae are hosted within this organism. Can detach frags to reproduce. Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
So moderate lighting and enough water flow so it can slough off its old skin and recieve food. I like mine about half way up the water colum.

Are these corals known to change shape as rapidly as open brains do? I know that mine is still acclimating, but it seems that every time i look at it, it is in a different "pose"
Where i have it now, it is not directly under the bulbs (because they run on an angle in my hood) but it is about 4-5 inches from the waters surface. Could this be too much lighting for it?
