Oh they're not at all. We didn't have efficient T5HO lighting on our tank and the upgrade was ridiculous money. We bought these a year old and it only cost us $275. I couldn't pass up the deal. The T5's served us quite well for the last year, BUT, not enough for SPS (at least not our setup).
I'll post pics as soon as we acclimate the corals to the lighting and figure out what height to hang them.

Because they are. Oh maybe not in the ability to keep a coral alive, but when it comes to how a tank looks overall. Nothing beats MH’s. You just can’t get the same look of 14K or 20K light dancing in the water from T5s.
CONGRATULATIONS

Definitely true! They've been on for 30 minutes and I've noticed a huge difference. It makes colors pop so much more. My Anthias and Blonde Naso look 100 times better under this lighting.

I have T5HO on my 29G....Satellite dual on my 54G...and MH on my 225G
They all have their own look, BUT I really like the look the T5HO's give on my 29G.....I like the MH's too LOL, but would not say the T5's are inferior....not at all...I'm very happy with them

I loved the way my 40G Breeder looked with T5HO's. To have the right amount of T5's on this tank though, it was way too much money, more than my $275 year old MH's, that's for sure.
So for all you MH owners...
1) What's your favorite bulb and why?
2) What do you run as actinics?
The Fixture is a Coralife 72" Aqualight with 3 150watt MH's and 4 36" 96watt actinics. Right now we have 10K's and 470nm's (Royal Blues by Coralife). All the lights need to be replaced, they're a year old (so the guy says) so we're trying to come up with the best combo of coloring. Keep in mind, we have a blue background painted on our tank so blue really stands out. We're thinking of 2 420nm Actinics and 2 470's. Thoughts?

I also have a blue background on my 90g. I like 14k, 20K looks like actinic is on all the time to me. I also run 2 X 96W actinic and a strip of moonlights for the night watch. 10K is way too yellow for my liking. It really is a matter of personal choice and the look you want.

<husband:
i think i want 14k ushio or pheonix. have any of you used these before?? i do agree that they look a little more on the yellow side of the spectrum but, i don't want to go to blue like 20k. we have 96w pc royal blue actinics which is a lot of blue... kinda considering 420nm true actinic along w/ the royal blues which are 470nm. we are so used to 4 reef waves by wavepoint which are 420nm and make the reds really pop. this halide setup was definitely worth the drive... i still can't get over the fact of how much we actually paid for a light that retails for 1200.
