Put your rock in first, make sure it is very stable and then add the live sand. Time...time is all you need.
You have to cycle the tank...do you have your test kits ready? When you see an ammonia spike, then nitrite, then nitrate ..test it like every other day and when the readings all goes back to 0 on all of them, then you are ready for a critter.
To help pass the time do some research READ! Read up on everything and be patient!

0 on all of them,
you may have to wait for the proverbial cows to come home if you wait for ALL your readings to be zero

LOL...true...What was I thinking. Glad you are there looking out...The ammonia has to spike and then go back down to 0. Yes ghost feed, or better yet get some frozen shrimp and put that in there....the rotting shrimp will give it a good kick start...test every day so you know when the ammonia spikes...than I waited and tested every couple of days for it t drop.. I used those little test strips for that part...when it read 0 I retested with the more accurate and expensive tests. So when ALL THOSE readings say 0 you are good to go.

Thank you so much I can't wait to get my first reef package. How long should I leave the shrimp in the tank? I'm running all my w/d filter and power heads. That's ok right?
