I got a letter from US Cellular...in two months, I will be with Sprint...They sold my contract????? My $300.00 smart phones will not be compatible with Sprint, and I will have to get another one from them??? I have two months that US Cellular will be usable, then they all close up. My phone was free with a 2 year contract...but I paid full price for my Mother's phone.
Please somebody...tell who is Sprints biggest pain in the a$$ competitor, so I can go to them for service.

Sprint sucks. end of story. I haven't dealt with sprint since 1999.The last 8 years I have been with Verizon. It doesn't hurt I get a 25% discount since I work for Home Depot. Wait, I don't work for them anymore, but Verizon doesn't know that...shhhhhhhhhhh.

LOL...I can't believe sprint took over US Cellular...they must have paid them a butt load of cash. So I should check out Verizon? Any possibility I can still use my phones with that company? I really don't understand why everyone has to have their own line of phones...

I have verison as well with two smart phones. Pretty good service. Never really had any problems. Everything has been pretty straight forward.

You can only use verison phones. Before you completely switch, I'd contact Sprint and tell them that you are under contract and you have whatever amt of time left under that contract. Ask, "Don't you have to honor the contracts you are buying?" I'm sure they will offer some compensation. You have a valid contract.
I believe you can use your own phone with ATT.

I can't do much on a Sunday. According to the letter I won't have to pay an early termination fee if I don't want to go with Sprint. Yes they honor my contract...but I don't want to honor Sprint. If they take over, I want out. ATT is one of the most expensive to go with. At least it was for my Internet. If they are the only ones who will let me keep my phones and number, then that's who I would have to go with. (SIGH) I have some homework to do to find the best option for us.
According to the letter this all takes place in 2 weeks...but I can hold on to US Cellular for another two months before they totally get absorbed...why bother?
From what I have read on-line...Verizon will allow me to use my phones and my old numbers. I will have to talk with a rep before I make any decisions. My problem with wanting to keep everything as is...My Mother has a really hard time learning how to use a phone, she still forgets how to even (with this new one after a whole year) answer it half the time, and it's impossible for her to remember a new number. We don't text...my kids text me once in a while, we don't watch video using the phone, or listen to music on it. We need the GPS, Mother gets lost easy, and she still drives...LOL...she drives just fine, she just can't figure out which way to turn to get home. We need the big screen to be able to see, we are both half blind close up. The only thing we take pictures of are the folks who's numbers we have, so a face pops up when they call.

You might consider a big screen Garmin GPS for the car. That way, she can attach it to the windshield, get voice and visual instructions, and can drive without having to look at a phone.
I'm surprised that Verizon allow you to keep your phone. It didn't used to be that way.

IME ATT and Verizon are about equal in pricing. I wont deal with Verizon cause last time I have them they changed cell towers so I couldn't get a signal at my house without walking into the front yard and they basically told my tough luck. Only had about 3 months to go on the contract and it wasn't THAT big of a deal cause I didn't use the cells at home very much but still, they can KMA!

...So ATT is better? Can I ask....Did you have an older or newer phone? My daughter said Verizon is better then ATT and they upgraded the towers and the older phones had a problem. LOL...my decision will be based which one angers Sprint the most?

I just have a dumb phone but my wife uses a crackberry for work (they pay all but about 10 bux of my cell phone bill now :) ) with enterprise e mail and such. She's had to use it in Northwest Montana, Northern Oklahoma, Southern Colorado, Las Vegas, Wyoming, Scottsdale AZ and parts of New Mexico and the service has been great. She uses it for Citrex to access all their central files and all that jazz so the service has been great. I don't know that's it's better than Verizon but it's been fine for what is her pretty demanding needs. Only downside I've heard to ATT is if you have an iPhone in New York or some other huge city then the service can be a little slow.

Ive had nothing but trouble out of att. Lousy customer service, lousy billing department, lousy employees. They were charging my dad $400 a month for a business LAN line and they wouldnt come out to fix his phone for a week. Att is very very spotty cell phone service in my neck of the woods.

You just have to check which carriers have the better service in your particular area. Check the maps for your neighborhood. Down here Tmobile and Sprint had the better 4g coverage so I've been using Tmobile because I hate Sprint. ATT's network is lagging behind a bit in the 4g race but they will ultimately buy out Tmobile before long.

I've had zero issues with ATT. We discovered my wife was due a service discount through her work and while she was in looking at phones she showed the guy her company ID and the discount was applied then and there. Now their 35.00 upgrade fee for getting a new phone we'll have to discuss but it seems all the companies are pulling that now.

I really hate this...I liked US Cellular. I will do some calls tomorrow to see what plans each have and the costs. I want to keep the phones and numbers we are familiar with. The only thing I'm certain of is that I don't want sprint.

Update:
Well I went with Verizon. They gave me a credit on my phones, and I ended up paying just $25.00 when I switched...that was spent on accessories, I got the droid Razr and I was able to keep our phone numbers.. I got just about the exact same phones we had...but with Jellybean (the OS my other phones had was ice cream sandwich) it will also be about $30.00 cheaper each month then what I was paying US Cellular.
I did find a pretty awesome way to custom cover the phones. I usually go to skin it, but they didn't have our new phones listed on the devices to select. So I got the clear case at the Verizon store, and found the picture I wanted on-line...I made a template on my Printmaster art program that fit the case, and printed out the selected picture to nestle in the back of the case. My Mother loves Siamese kittens, so I was able to find a pic she liked, with the way the pic is situated, it looks good if she turns the phone on it's side or upright. She was happy, and that means I'm happy.
Here is the pic I used....Happy Mother's day to my dear Mother....for her, Mothers day lasts a week before the actual date every year.

After talking with US Cellular, they didn't sell my contract, LOL...my contract was over 4 years ago...I agree with you however about selling contracts. I never understood selling contracts for sports people either, it makes no sense to me.
The US Cellular rep said they sold all of the towers in my area to Sprint. US Cellular is still alive and well in other parts of the USA. My bill will be about $30.00 cheaper with Verizon, and the new Motorola Razr is a pretty cool phone, and operates just like my other touch phones. I signed a contract for 2 years and got the phones cheap. This new one can be used with a stylus as well, so hitting those tiny little letters is much easier with that gadget. I used to have to turn my phone on the side, because the tiny keyboard was a little bigger that way. It's all good now.
