These are loveable dogs but they are 'money pits'. Breathing problems, eye problems, skin problems..all chronic, recurring ones...But everyone I know that has one loves them and they always stay with the breed and get another one if their original one passes away.
For me the pros outway the cons though, my cousin has one and he's an awesome dog. I've done quite a bit of research on the breed and feel it's a good breed for me since I live in an apartment and they don't require much exercise or outdoor time as they overheat easily. They are also a very laid back breed and great with kids. I don't have kids of my own but friends and family that visit do. It's just and all around perfect match. Unless it's priced totally outrageous, I'm going to look into getting pet insurance when I eventually get one.

CUTE CUTE
he is big for his age. I am a breeder and Show my Dogs I have Great Danes and Smooth Fox terriers. LOVE DOGS!!
The Adult dog food for this puppy would be the best choice! As suggested
We never feed Great Danes puppy food at any life stage.
However the brands are very important and your choice whould not have been my first choice.
Read your ingredients the first 1 is 85% of ANY dog/cat food. and your choice brand is ground yellow corn.
Now dogs are meat eaters right?
Pedigree has a lot of Dye in their foods and so does SO MANY grocery store brands.
They better the food the less stool your pup will give you.

So on that note good choices
Adult only But I am not so sure this pup is that young does he/she still have ALL puppy teeth? Right at the 4.5 month mark they will loose the little teeth molars by 5 and canines are in by 6 months. this helps age puppies.
BLUE
Merrick
Egale
"Chicken soup" for the pet lovers soul Great food at lower cost than the others!
to give you a few. What your looking for in the VERY first ingredient is CHICKEN Meal, Lamb Meal. Stay away from Beef it tends to give your pup looser stools.
I feed a bit different I fed my Show dog the "Raw Food diet". it is not for everybody but IMO is the best.
Again the pup buy the pics looks much older than 13 weeks his body shape and size he looks more like 5 months I could be way off here. But by looking at the size of him and the knucles around his feet would be busting at the seams, yet his growth plate in that area is smoother flow into the paw. And his ears already on the rise somthing you don't see at a pup that age for the breed mix. But he is damn CUTE!
My consern age wise is Vaccines and heartworm meds would be over due if he is older so that is why I question for your pups age.
Now we have differnt breeds here but here are a few pics of Ebony She is my Show Dane at 8 weeks 12 weeks and 5 months 1yrs. Your pup is much bigger than my pup at the same age? Ebony at 2 yrs weight is 140lbs. So that is why I think your pup is much older.

My pup weighs 23.1 LB and the news paper said that he is 3 months and 1 weeks old and so did the breeder. He was the smartest of the bunch and the healthiest of the bunch and he also looked the best from the bunch. Thanks for the info everyone!!! The food was made up of turkey and rice. Is turkey and rice good? I just fed him 1 cup and 3/4 of a cup of the Purina ONE for adults. We are going to go and get him some shots this week.

This one is mine we just got her too. We did an adoption rescue league, she was 3 months when we got her but very skinny because she had worms... she is 15 weeks now and weighs 29lbs she gained 10lbs in 3 weeks...With the colors on yours and mine they kinda look like they could be related but Im sure there are millions of mutts that look like ours, LOL.... Good luck with yours.. its been 12 years since we had a puppy...Ahhh the memories come flooding back...
We just got 2 DNA tests for our mutts I thought it would be really cool to see what breeds actually make up our 2. A few years ago these tests were over $100 each and the results were not as good as they are now. I bought 2 and in about a week we will have the results... I thought this was an awesome idea for owners who have mutts and are looking to find out what they really are...

I feed mine a Lamb and Rice mix and as far as proportions are concerned its determined by weight and approximate size of the dog as an adult if it will be a toy, small, medium, lg, or tank.. LOL. All I know is my pup eats 4 cups a day, she plows through it. I am thinking she is going to be a large dog but its difficult to tell with mutts...IMO. I Have heard that a guidline you can use is that a healthy dog will reach half their ideal adult weight at 4 months. Not sure if this is true or not but with my last 2 dogs it was right on.

Why would you want to do that?
My dad said that he has to live out side. Id love to keep him in side the house!! But my mom and dad said nope, out side. But he will go inside the house ever now and then. When we put him out side, he starts making those sounds. Those begging sounds. But right now, hes in the house. But ill ask again if he can live out side and in side.

Good for you. Don't give money to the puppy mills!

I forgot to say, we have 2 dogs. One is a short haired dachshund and the new puppy I got yesterday. My short haired dachshund is 11 years old. They are pretty much used to each other all ready. But still kinda get mad if one or the other get too close to each other. I also talked my dad into keeping it in the house right now. But he said we will let go in the house but he said its got to be out side most of the time.

Dont make the poor dog live outside. I personally think that is just mean. Spending a couple hours tied up out side with shade and fresh water is one thing but living a life out side tied to a box is no life for a dog.
I have a cattle dog mix and a english bulldog. which in the warmer months spend alot of time out side ( with me) tied up ( unless I am out there then they just hang out) with me
But in no ways do I think it is a good life for a dog to live outside.
As for bulldog make sure you buy from a reputable breeder( reputable breeder being the key word) Do a lot of searching first. They have bad hips, joints, hearts, skin and breathing problems. Even though they are laid pack dogs they still need plenty of exercise. Mines enjoys hiking, swimming ( when he can) and chasing think in the yard.
Mine supposedly came from a breeder I had him shipped in from LA. I paid 1600 for him supposed to be register and microchiped, UTD on all shot. What I got was a non registered, non microchipped and no shots full of worms puppy. I love pork chop to death but within 4 months I had spent 4 times what I paid for him in vert bill, Demodectc mange ( the genetic one) Reacurring and will never go away. Any time he gets stresses all of his hair fall out and he smells awful.Only one testicle. He has two bad knees on his back legs which will eventually need surgery and one bad hip. Has to lay with his head on something or he can not breathe. Dont even think about him rolling over ( not able to breathe at all)
Now dont get me wrong I will never give him up for anything and personality wise he is a great dog but my cattle dog mix that came from the shelter 11 years ago has cost me nothing but the neuter and the shot.
Think about that breed really hard before you get one.

Not to hijack, but I have a red, smooth dachshund too, 1.5 yrs.

I feed my one dog whos a year and a half old twice a day. The pup gets fed 3 times a day, but will eventually get fed twice a day too. There can be severe drawbacks from feeding a dog once a day IMO. By the time you feed them they are very very hungry, and if they eat too fast and then drink excessively. This can cause a condition called GDV which stands for Gastric Dilatation Volvulous. It occurs in deep chested dogs who eat their dry food very quickly than drink a lot of water. The dry food soaks up the water like a giant food sponge thereby over filling the stomach. The stomach becomes so filled by food mixed with water and gas that it turns upside down on its axis. A dogs stomach is freely movable except for the two ends, so this can happen eaisily. And the only way to fix this condition should it happen is with surgery.
As a FWIW, I hope you can convince your parents to let you keep your new pup inside. Not for your benifit or for any environmental reasons as I believe that as a responsible pet owner you will take care of his needs in inclimate weather. But IMO for a reason far more important, socially. Dogs are pack animals and they get their strength from their pack. This may not seem important to us as humans but to a dog its vital in their growth and development. Their mental state being apart from their pack no matter how you present the scenrio to them is a humiliation to be left out. This type of treatment in dogs can adversly affect their personality in a lot of different ways. Territorially, socially with other dogs and with people, and lastly mentally as they can sometimes get mentally sick from lack of interaction with their pack. For your dogs benifit and mental health stability I emplore you to find some way to talk your parents into letting the dog be a part of his pack. If you need more convincing watch, read or google the Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan. Hope this helps and good luck.

Feeding puppies:
Everyone has good suggestions: Here is mine.
I have a 3-5minute rule. If she eats fast give her 3 minutes, if she picks at food then 5 minutes.
I would start with 1 cup, set the timer in your kitchen for 3-5 minutes. If she finishes the first cup add 1/2cup increments as she continues to eat until she walks away from the food
or the timer goes off, Whichever is first. Feed this way 3x daily until 6 months of age, then go to 2x daily. I like to continue to feed dogs 2x daily for their entire lives, although you can safely feed 1x daily after 1 year of age for small breed dogs. Yours is medium/large..feed 2x daily as an adult.
Reason for the 3-5 minute rule. They will have a chance to eat what they need but are unable to 'gorge' themselves as they would if you left food down all the time.
At about 1 year of age for small dogs and 1.5 years for larger I feed amounts accoprding top desired weight. I use the 1 cup of food for 40# body weight guideline. So, if she is a healthy 80#, then feed 2 cups total each day. If she gets a little thin, increase it.
Most people overfeed their pets.

Hey, he eats VERY fast and then drinks some water. So, I should feed him 3x a day but a little bit at a time right? How many cups would you suggest a day for him?
